Weekend Away. Missed the kids

EMT and I went to the CT and RI coast for the weekend. We had a great time. I enjoyed being with him thoroughly. I needed the break from the kids big time. It had been 7 months since I have had a kid break. So I know I needed it badly. But I really missed them, felt bad about being away and kept in contact as best as possible.

It didnt really ruin the weekend away. We did have a great time. But it was hard on me. Maybe it gets easier. I dont know. But EMT is wanting to do a 4 day cruise with me in March and there is not cell phone contact with the kids while we are underweigh. As much as I want to be with EMT I dont think I can handle 4 days away from the kids with no cell phone contact. I will go nuts. I have never cruised before so I dont know how it works with keeping in touch with folks on land. Does anyone know how this goes?

Laurie....who had a good time and is glad to be home.

It is hard being away from the kids but glad you got a break. I've never been on a cruise either so I'll be happy to learn how it works as well.

When I went on my cruise they had internet access and satelite phones so I was able to call the kids or email them and get emails back from them daily. The ship usually ports daily so you can always use your cell at those times depending on where you go on your cruise!

Hi Laurie!

Talk to your cell phone provider, most have very affordable rates from Mexico and Caribbean so you can call while in port.

Awww!! Well I am glad you have a good time with EMT. I know how it feels to miss the kiddo though. But you need your away time, too.

I've never taken a cruise but I imagine you can communicate via internet at least?

I went to Italy last year without DD, and not talking to her for a week was very hard.

I am leaning towards either not taking the cruise or taking the kids with us. I decided I cant relax and have fun wondering what kind of trouble they are getting into. You know teens. Last time I took a weekend away my then 17 year old threw a huge party with alcohol and all. I was pissed. I never really wanted to cruise anyhow. Its not my style. I will go nuts on a boat.

I dont think I can even relax knowing they are home and that far away. Even with my 21 year old watching them there is still room for trouble and I wouldnt put it past my 17 year old to find it. Cruises are just too long and too far away. I would consider something a few hours drive away but a cruise to a different country is just too far. I guess I will have to let EMT go with his ex wife instead. Lol. Oh thats mean of me.
