Weekend fun in the snow

Just thought I'd share what a great weekend date I had with you all. Went skiing in Utah with M this past weekend. We initially got interested in one another through our mutual love of skiing and this was our first ski experience together. We'd been planning this for two months.
M went up to Salt Lake on Wed due to business, then I joined him on Fri morning. Our kids were w/ their other parent this past weekend. We skied with one of his client's at Alta on Fri, which meant we had a native as a tour guide. It started snowing that day and kept snowing all weekend, by Sun. there was more than a foot of fresh fluffy Utah powder- soooo cool. M is a stronger skier than I, but we found compatible terrain, and with all that powder, I could manage steeper runs than I'd normally dare. Plus M kept giving me pointers so it was like having a private lesson too. Alta is an old school skier's mountain, no snowboarding, lots of tree skiing, no fancy lifts, a lot of intermediate/expert runs. We skied there Sat as well and at Solitude on Sun. We were both exhausted by the time we came home.
When we checked into our downtown hotel on Fri. M told me not to get too comfortable because he had a birthday surprise for me for Sat night. He had managed to get a room at a ski lodge bed and breakfast a mile from Solitude. When we'd tried to book our stay, all the resorts were full already and none take less than a two night reservation for the weekend anyway. Turns out the owner is from Oswego (see previous thread on why that is funny) so M gets us the one night reservation for their most romantic suite. It was so nice. We had a great day of skiing, a great dinner (rack of lamb, my favorite), really nice bottle of Syrah, and a wonderful time together that night. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. (my birthday is actually this coming Sat but we both have our kids, Xmas stuff, so this past weekend was the logical time for the two of us to celebrate)
On the fashion report: we both have blue/black/gray Columbia ski jackets, my pants are grey, his khacki, and we both have Lange boots. We looked like clones, well except he's 6'1" and I'm 5'4". He's in dire need of a new bootbag so guess what I'm buying for him for Xmas online today? Otherwise, I wore jeans and ski sweaters all weekend with a silver bead bracelet watch and silver & turquoise hoop earrings.
I'm going to Park City w/my kids 1/1-1/7 for our annual winter break ski vacation. M is trying to swing joining us 1/3 &4. He'll take my boys down to Alta and try to show them all the local secret terrain his client showed him. They'll love it and since they're expert skiers in tip top shape, M will have quite a challenge keeping up, he's looking forward to it. Even D2.75 will ski one day, her first ever, at The Canyons they'll take out 2 yr olds in the ski school.
So it now feels like Xmas to me. Think snow in the rockies for me.

How fun! I actually bought a season pass to a local ski resort, and wouldn't you know, it's been 50 here?!
I haven't ever skiied, but I'm looking forward to learning how to this year.
Your weekend sounds like a wonderful time, and I haven't even begun to learn to ski yet! I'm sure you and the kids will have a great time over the New Year!
