On a very sad note, my niece, Erin, is in the hospital. She had a basketball game yesterday, and her dad is the coach. She asked me if I wanted to come to watch. We all decided to go, and I'm very glad we did. After the game, Erin didn't feel well. She said she was dizzy and her chest hurt her. Her heart was beating fast, so my BIL took her to the hospital. Several hours later, my BIL called to say that Erin was going to be staying in the hospital. She has some kind of a congenital heart defect that she was born with, and no one ever knew about. She has to have surgery to correct it. I'm very blown away by this and very sad. Erin's only 10. Back when I was married, me and my exh and my sister and her husband were inseperable. We lived only 10 minutes from each other and we spent a ton of time together. I went through 2 years of infertility problems before I got pregnant. Erin was like my child before I had any. She always did stuff with me and my exh and she was always at my house. She's such a great, sweet and beautiful kid. My heart aches for her. I hope she will make it through all of this because I can't imagine life without her.
Last but not least, my date Saturday night was great. It was so nice to cook for someone in my house again. Unfortunately, I had far too much going on this weekend, and I told Paul that it was probably a bad idea to have him come over on a weekend when I was so busy. I can't believe I was in charge of a bake sale; I hate to bake because I'm not very good at it. I ended up throwing away 2 batches of mini muffins (I burned them; 1/2 a batch of cookies (I burned them) and a bundt cake (it stuck to the top of the pan and fell apart). So, I had to make more stuff to compensate for the stuff I screwed up, plus I had to make a pan of lasagna for the party the next day. I think I was cooking til about midnight, but that gave us a chance to talk. Paul was very understanding. I talked to him during the week about what I was going to cook. (The last guy I dated was such a fussbutt about food that I wanted to make sure he would eat what I made or not be allergic to it). Crab legs are my favorite food, so Paul said he would bring some over. He bought them and I cooked them, and they were great. I thought that was very thoughtful and sweet for him to do that. He hasn't dated since his divorce 2 years ago, and he was nervous. He said he felt like he was back in high school again. That's so cute. Any way, I had a nice time. The next day I was thinking, "too bad I have to wait two weeks to see him again". I guess that's a good sign.
Donna

Thanks for the update. You kept us waiting all day ;-)
It sounds like you sure had a whirl wind of a weekend. It is good that you survived seeing your sister and faced that demon - it means things are healing and you are moving on. Although I totally understand your point about not ever totally trusting or forgiving.
Sorry to hear about your niece. That is so scary but hopefully everything will be okay.
I am also glad that you were so busy so you were not focusing totally on Paul. That keeps things slow and in perspective. Very good!! And it is good that he was nervous and also that you will look forward to seeing him in 2 weeks. He does sound like a nice person.
And yes, a bake sale is a lot of work - I have done that for my son's school as well.
All good stuff!!
The dating situation with Paul sounds great so far Donna. He sounds so very thoughtful! Crab legs! wow, whatta guy to actually cook them up for them. J knows I love them. He takes me OUT to get them. ;)
The family thing sounded not nearly as bad as it could have been. I am glad your sister behaved appropriately and YOU were able to hold you head up and not worry. That's great!
I'll be praying for Erin. This sounds SO difficult! What a shock for all of you. I pray that she comes through stronger than ever and the surgery goes well. Please let us know the date of it if you can. Poor girl! Thank God they know how to handle things like this now. ((((hug))))
YAY!
Your story about the bake sale made me laugh! Jojo just had a cakewalk at his school for the Harvest Festival and I made Chocolate Chip Scotch Rice Krispy Treats! LOL :) I like to bake, and actually enjoy it - but not in mass quantities! And my family forgives me if the top of the cake is stuck back on with frosting! LOL
I'm so glad your day with your little sis and her dh turned out ok. Hugs to you. I know that was tough for you and I'm glad you made it through!
Sounds like things with Paul are working out nicely! Two weeks apart - I betcha anything absence will make the heart grow fonder!
I'll be thinking of Erin. My good friend, who lived with me years ago - I was in her wedding - had to have open heart surgery when she was 11 - she had a hole in her heart. Cardiologists can do amazing things with children - and children are SOOO resilient. Be thankful it was caught early and that she's getting help.

The crab sounds yummy, I got hungry reading that!
And I am so sorry about your niece. I hope she will be okay. I can't even imagine how scary that must have been for all of you and how hard this is. Hopefully, the fact that she's athletic and young will make her even stronger to go through this surgery. Please let us know what happens. Try not to worry too much, she will get through this.
Big hugs
Tara
