Oh I do agree - how can they forget. She ended up calling him to remind him. And the crazy thing is that he had the nicest gifts for her that he got some time ago!!! Crazy. I think he just had a really hard day at school and has some exams today. The thing is that he is usually a good bf - they have been dating for some time.

Oh ok well thats a bit different if he already had gifts and just got overwhelmed on the actual day. I can see that happening in some cases.
I just wrote that thing on my kid lying and guess what? A morning show has a segment coming up RIGHT NOW on kids lying. Channel 5 - not sure what show it is.
My father used to teach school and he told me when I was struggling with it with DS that the only thing he would worry about is if I thought my kid DIDNT lie. They all do! Still.....I am watching the segment - and he has been 'clean" for weeks now but you can never be too prepared for the next episode, right?

We just saw Spiderwick last night and didn't think it was overly violent at all.

Maybe it is a boys versus girls thing?

At least you all are going to movies - my DS hates going to the movies. He loves to stay at home and have me cook for him! LOL!!!

Once he yelled in the door from the pool - with his friends - hey mom, can you make pizza and cookies from scratch for us?

"I was explaining to my friend yesterday - whose bf forgot to call - that VDay to us is like the Superbowl. We care about VDay but most men don't. And about the superbowl - most men love it but most women don't pay much attention to it. She thought that was a good analogy."

That is a good way to look at it! Except I guess I'm "part man" because I loved the SuperBowl and all the fun that goes with it! (I'm looking forward to March Madness!!!!! (the NBA playoffs, for those who don't know)) Maybe that's why Hiker and I get along so well- because we both love the sports.

But with all these "holidays"... I tend to think of them as "just another day" because I used to be someone who got all sorts of expectations of this or that... and then when things don't happen that way, I get crushed. So now I just see them all as fun and special days... but once it's all said and done... it really is Just Another Day and shouldn't be a big deal.

Like the SuperBowl (and the Cowboys playoffs... *sigh*)- it was all fun and exciting and I loved it- but when it's all over... I know it's "just a game" and it's not anything to REALLY be upset about. Valentine's, birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas... there's a WHOLE LOT OF HYPE that is pretty darn commercialized, and I don't like that part. But yeah, I like for those days to be special, but once they are done, they really are Just Another Day because life goes on and nothing to dwell on.

The only thing is I do feel bad that Christmas has sort of become "just another day" when it's more a religious and spiritual day than the rest... and it goes deeper than just another day. But I also try not to have too high of any kind of expectations about it.

Anyway, I'm also VERY glad that Valentine's is past now- and people can get out of the odd funk & stress

I'm with you on the chocolate thing Shrimps. My boss and my daughter wished me a happy valetines day and that was the extent of it. I had no expectations for the SuperBowl of Love Day so I wasn't disappointed. And also like you, Christmas is beginning to become the same as every other day.
