Yes, I would expect a present. But, I wouldn't mention it to him. If he doesn't have the sense to buy a present, I would bail on him.

I'd be really concerned if he didn't acknowledge her daughter during the holidays. When you date a single mom you date the whole package (mom and kids). She could perhaps suggest they do their Christmas shopping together, and "hint" at what her daughter would like. He may pick up on that and offer to purchase it.

Hope this helps

Well, personally I don't believe ANYONE should EXPECT a present from ANYBODY, EVER.

I would suggest it as you shop together. If he doesn't have children, he really may not 'get it' that it's a very important gesture for her and for you. Also, if he doesn't seem to warm up to your daughter in some fashion, I would be concerned enough to end the relationship. She will look at him as a male role model, and what will she see? Too much distance perhaps...JMO. Good luck.

They've only been dating 5 months, and the daughter is very young still- so she really should maybe only have met him.

Has she introduced her bf to her child?

I don't think she should EXPECT a gift. But if it is important maybe she can suggest they do something fun together as one?

It sounds to me like she has serious issues and worries with this guy - it is not even Thanksgiving yet and she is already worried about a Xmas gift from him.
