When does school start?

Good morning to all :-)

School started for us this week - which got me thinking - what are you all doing for kids in school? I think that being a one-parent household makes us all a little more stretched in the morning and would love to share stories.

Has school started yet?
What grade?
Did you do anything special this year? How's it going?

My son is now in middle school. I cannot believe he is not really a baby or little kid anymore - he is morphing into "a guy" - LOL!! This year he has lockers and has to change classes and get himself organized. And he is stepping up to the plate and excited about the process. He made himself a list of classes, times, books, stuff to do and is doing it all on his own.

Yesterday he came home, did all the homework himself and organized his lunch and backpack - all without a peep from me. And he and the dogs all put themselves to bed last night without any word from me - I was in my office working and suddenly the house got quiet!!

But this morning was another story - we were like a trainwreck to be on time - out of sync and practice for sure.

What is different? Well, he has a new iPod clock radio - I was thinking that would get him motivated to set the clock and get up (don't laugh!) and I got a great deal on a refurb on eBay - and it worked yesterday but obviously maybe we needed a peppier song for today - LOL!!

That is so cute she still cuddles. DS does that from time to time now. I hear the footprints of him and the 2 dogs running across the house to my room and then pow - all of a sudden there are 4 of us in my bed. Sometimes this makes us late in the morning, too.

We have the added challenge that our carpool neighbors are really late - today DS got there so late he had to go to the office for a late slip. He wants me to "fire them" - LOL!! But I I said no we have to talk to them - I just called a bit ago and the parents are not home from work yet - it is 8PM - like wow! But I will call in the morning and remind them to leave earlier. This is another teaching lesson for DS - because he has to learn how to handle life's lessons and experiences. How to set a boundary in a nice manner 101 - LOL!!

They have this fabulous nanny who lives with them full time and she cooks and cleans all day - so they probably love to lounge around and eat her breakfast. The funny thing is that the parents are the ones who are late to get ready and leave - the kids are all ready to go on time!! They are 7th and 8th grade this year. A tad older than my DS.
