Oh I am sure there are exceptions to the rule but I am not one who is willing to chance the exceptions anymore because thats what I have always done...backed down on my internal voice and boundaries thinking "oh hes just the exception to the rule...HE is different" NOPE not doing that anymore. I will proceed with my wants and needs known this time around.
Whats going on with Jerry...well back in November we made the decision to casually date or back off on things while he and I are in therapy. We still are very much a part of eachothers lives but we arent involving the kids anymore and we just see one another usually on the weekends we dont have our kids. Jerry has continued his therapy and with things backing off well, the stress isnt there and we are enjoying eachother more. But Im staying true to what I want and thats a long term committment with someone who wants marriage and ultimatley 1 child. Jerry cant committ to that one way or the other. He says he wants that but isnt ready so. Im off taking care of me...and finding things that keep my busy and TRYING so hard to make new freindships which is so difficult living in a new area and it being winter. I joined a new church but nothing panning out. I made a freind at work but she lives over 60 miles from me. My best freind in the last 2 years has flaked out on me so many times -- meaning we make plans and she just doesnt even call to cancel...she just doesnt even show up. Then I am sure because she feels guilty she wont call for 2 - 3 weeks and expects me to just forget.... I have given up on her. So really I have a LACK of freindships and it SUCKS!! I need to make some freinds so that Im not wanting to call Jerry. Its tough being 32 and trying to make freinds all over again...
Thanks for the good luck on the job ... I do hope it happens it would be great not to have to drive 2 hours (one hour each way) to and from work everyday. Its horrible!
Im finding I am spending all this $$ on new CD's to get me through the drive. Not a good habit to start. I think I should try the Columbia house thing??? hmmmmmm
Anyway
Have a good one dearie!

Hi. I am 34, recently divorced (was married 9 years) and have a 4 1/2 year old dd. We have joint physical custody so she is with me every other week Friday to Friday. I've been on this board since about November I guess. I have been on ivillage a long time, but took a break for several years after having dd, just too busy trying to pretend my marriage was working :)

I stopped posting my real name a while ago. I have been dating my bf for a year, but at one point several months ago we thought he was was going to move away, so we broke up. I posted my ad on match and started talking to this guy. At some point I decided I just wasn't ready to date, but this guy prefered to talk for *months* before meeting, so there was no pressure. As it turns out, his best friend works with my ex husband and he told me that my ex husband was out drinking at a happy hour and said all kinds of horrible nasty lies about me. It is true that I had an affair, but he was saying I had a string of them and he caught me at our home more than once and I was with multiple people. I was petrified thinking these sort of things could get back to other people (it was freaky that they got back to me, but it did happen) and what if they got back to someone at dd's school? So I confronted my ex. I posted on one of the boards to get some advice before the confrontation, and at that point I realized that if my ex came across the message board (or one of his co-workers did) that would look bad. I wanted my ex to agree to not talk negatively about each other, so I should be willing to do the same (or at least be anonymous about it). My user name is pretty anonymous. It used to be a combination of my maiden and married names, but at one point on the current debates board people got in a big discussion of using your real names online, and how someone could track you down in person, and how someone could do a search on google and get all your ivillage posts (someone said they did this and it worked). So I changed my user name to something that if searched, would not pop up with my posts. How is that for a long meaningless story you probably didn't want to waste time reading!

Update: Things are still going along with my bf. He's talking about me moving with him so he can be near his son, but that could only happen if my ex agreed to move too. I have talked to my ex about it before and he said no. I asked again last week if he could think of any way that could work, for example, maybe he could use it as an opportunity to go to school (he hates working and would rather be in school). He said he'd consider it but I doubt he's going to say yes. My bf isn't positive he will move with or without me, so I'm still in limbo.

Hey Catherine!

Just checking in and saw this thread and figured I'd contribute.

Mel (Melissa), age 31, Married to Shane for 8 months and mommy to a sweet adorable son, Dylan who is five and expecting my first daughter on April 15th and naming her Emily.

I've been busy. We moved last month to our new home, Shane lost his job the next day, started a new the next day and is still there learning and beginning to like it, I think. We have a dog, Hogan, and have been working on us for some time. We just started going to church yesterday and I feel much closer to Shane now. He's been opening up to me more since we talked about that and I made it clear how insulted I was that he has been so distant.

I haven't been around here much lately because I am posting a lot on a board more geared for married folks. Maggie and Bec are the Cl's there so I still have them and a bunch of our SMAD people are there too that are married. But I haven't abandoned this board. I miss y'all here so I don't plan to go anywhere.

How are ya???

Mel
