I am starting to get upset. My oldest daughter took her first step at 11 months and elayed walking until 13 months, when she went full force running. My 2nd daughter took her first step at 9 1/2 months and went full force wlaking at 10 months and running at 10 1/2 months. My son has never taken his first step by himself. He will wlak with a childs chair, or a walker toy or the wall, the couch my hand anything, but not on his own, ever. As soon as he is not supported by soemthing he loks at me laughs and sits down.
His right foot does sort of stick out when he tries to walk so I counteracted that with walking shoes, and his feet are fine, but he wont walk.
He's a had some medical problems, like he was in the NICU for 2 weeks at birth on full life support, and no one thought he was gonna make it, not even the drs. The he was diagnosed with GERD and was very small for his age, he outgrew that and has a very bouts of it, like lately a lot of acide refulx, and now he has asthma, which I think is caused form birth, but that shouldn't stop him from walking. Is there something wrong with him. I mean he's a happy little boy, gets into everything, and can walk with support but wont venture on his own, he even scoots while he's sitting. Any suggestions?

I think it is too soon to worry - I have a cousin whose son didn't walk until he was almost 20 months.

It could be his personality - they all mature in their own time. I am sure he will surprise you very soon!! Also with all of his older siblings to entertain and help that probably explains it too.

I would bring this up to the pediatrician the next time you go and see what he/she says - just keep them posted. And keep us posted, too.

I agree with Judy, all kids do things in their own time.

Honey,
Don't push him..he'll walk when he's ready.
I have 4 boys.
My first started walking at 1 year- took a nasty spill and didn't walk until he was 14 months.
My 2nd couldn't wait to catch his older brother and walked at 7 months.
Thank God because I was pregnant with the twins and they didn't walk until they were 11 months.
Every baby is different, developementally.
He'll walk when he's ready- not one second sooner!

Hi

Just to back up what the others have said - don't worry at all! My son walked at 22 months, and is a normal, sporty little 8 year old now!

I was told by the paediatrician to not even think about it until 18 months, so I think you can relax right now. He will walk when he's ready.

Hugs,
Clemmy
