Hows THAT for a hot topic?
I will preface this with the fact that I far from a bigot.

Well... there's a difference between a Muslim and a Taliban man... while the Muslims do have different rules that Western culture seems to find oppressive, I think it's more the Taliban rules that people think of when they think "Muslim"... since they take the basic rights and freedoms that the Muslims allow away.
Here's what I mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_Islam
vs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban_treatment_of_women
i'm saying the same thing as traumaJ, though.
yoked ... is in reference to two oxes pulling a load. The yoke is the thing that keeps them together as they are pulling. Unequally yoked would be one of them was pulling harder or maybe they are trying to go in different directions all together. You can imagine that wouldn't be a harmonious partnership.
If he was an Americanized Muslim and not particularly devout, yes. I would not date a super religious Catholic either and I am Catholic.
Lately, for some reason it seems every book I pick up for my pleasure reading is about Middle Eastern culture. Started with A Thousand Splendid Suns, then Kabul Beauty School, Digging to America, and the Blood of Flowers. All depict that culture a little differently. I really never would become a Muslim, nor move to a Muslim country.
Hey, but Rlch, you'd fit right in on one account. In Afghan culture, and this is not a Taliban thing, they have a tradition that on the night before you marry, both the bride and groom remove ALL body hair and facial hair except eyebrows lashes and hair on top of your head. With the Taliban, men had to leave the beard on.

although I have seen many very sincere and smart muslim guys, my first instinct is to say NO. Not all muslims are of the same ideas.
It is hard to say, but one date wont hurt- still I would give it very serious thought before jumping any further.
Is he settld with job and residency in US? Does he plan to eventually go back? Is he very religious? Was he married before?
Me and Biker share different religions, but non of us is very religious.. and we enjoy the festivals and celeberations in both culture and we have fun.
I say go with your instinct.
