First off--no this is not because I am going out with someone in law school!

For years I have been unsatisfied with my job--its not the job really but the income!

Good question April-

Despite my ups and downs with Blue Eyes- we were taking a walk yesterday and he raised a very good point and similar question. I told him that I went to college to study Biology, specializing in Micro and cellular biology- but that I could not get past the Chem + Calculus classes. I have been math challenged and therefore math phobic my whole life. I fell short of my cellular bio degree.

I really wanted to be a pathologist or microbiologist. BE says it is not too late. He's very good at math and would help me if I decide to take up math again. So..... maybe!

I also come from a long family history of artists and creative people. In high school spent all my extra time in Art and Photo classes- and I even spent a few adult years as a professional photographer before DD was born. I love the visual arts. I was discouraged when my portfolios and everything was burned in a home fire in 1991. I shared a studio with my mom back then- the whole thing burned to the ground.

I sort of never recovered mentally from it I suppose so I threw myself in my second best love- the medical field- and I've been doing this for years now.

I'm thinking about taking classes again. Oh and a fantasy job also I dream of sometimes- to be

I think your idea is very do-able from what you say - why not?

I am not sure what I would do different - because I love what I do and love being my own boss.

Keep us posted on your decision!

What would you do if you could do anything?

Ooh to do ANYTHING would be to be a zoologist and get to be one of the people that travels to different locales on animal planet shows, or just works with exotic animals.

That being said, I was talking to my mother tonight about finishing the degree out in education. My entire family is made up of educators, which initially made me consider it a soft option. When I look at how I really want to spend my day, I think it's a great choice for me, as it was for them. I work in law enforcement, and while I love it, there is a burnout factor you can't ignore. You either surpass it or you find something else to do. I'm fairly excited about finding something else to do :)

One thing I realized, and you seem to be in the same spot, is that it is entirely up to ME to make things happen for me. Yes, I have a great guy that's been around awhile. In terms of my life, paying for my kids college, retirement, purchasing a house, thats up to me. If we do it together, great! But I need to be able to do it, or willing to, on my own.

That's been an odd realization to come to, but incredibly empowering too :)

The best advice I ever got when I was contemplating going back to school was, "well, the (xx months) will go by either way, what do you want to show for it at the end of it?"

I think it is wonderful that you have a job you love--it sounds like you enjoy a lot of flexibility as a business owner, that is fabulous!!

I think law school would be do-able (if I can raise my LSAT score to honors scholarship level)--I wouldn't want to start until Sept. 2009 so I have plenty of time to get things in order and figure out stuff!

It is wonderful to see that so many people are able to live their dream...I know that I am in a difficult spot being the sole supporter of my little family but I hope to make it work--it is great that you were able go to school, work part time and spend time with your young ones!
