How fun! I have no idea where to recommend, but have a great time!

Just make sure you get the OK from the doctor to be travelling before you set out!

My favorite vacation spot is actually only about 3 hours from where I live. It's called Wakeley Lake and it's beautiful. It is a protected wildlife area (bald eagles and a pair of breeding Loons) so it's very quiet and picturesqe. They don't allow any vehicles though, so you have to walk in about a half mile and then it's tent camping only. Plus you can take a canoe (no motorized boats) out onto the lake to fish (catch and release only). Probably not really along the lines of what you were looking for, but DF and I love it!

Not New England per se, but I loved the beach at Delaware Bay (very calm vs. the Atlantic). It would be lovely now in the fall--no tourists. Dewey Beach & Lewes had a lot of nice restaurants and shop too. I'm sure they'd be open on the weekends especially now that it's not high season.

Baltimore (and its Inner Harbor) is nice. I was just there this past weekend with girlfriends and the hotel was reasonable ($100 for a remodeled/nice Sheraton--but TONS of other hotel options too), the weather was nice and there is a lot to see and visit.

These might be too far south, but I thought I'd throw them out there :)

Have fun where ever you end up. Fall is sooo romantic!

I vacationed in New England a couple of years ago. I love Woodstock VT,lots of antiques, maple trees and bed and breakfasts- Manchester VT- same kind of town, anywhere in Maine- Freeport was a neat town for shopping, ocean is beautiful and rugged anywhere there, and of course the Lobster is fantastic! have a wonderful time.

I used to love my great grandmothers house in Connecticut. I'm easy though- give me a quiet cabin in the mountains with a fireplace and I am happy.
