In the words of singer Joe Jackson, "if there's war between the sexes, then there'll be no people left."
**"I thought this board was for *understanding* the opposite sex, not "battling"!"**
...but I had decided to not be the first one to speak up, because I didn't want to be perceived as taking another "shot" at the new CL.
But you are totally right (IMHO)...it is just anotehr sign of how this board has really, really changed over the years - the orginal spirit of it (and its intended goal) has seemingly been totally lost...
way back before the board format changed. I think it would work better now, with this format.
How about some sort of "Top 10/20/100 things the sexes don't understand about each other" folder, where we can have discussions and debates about some of the most common questions asked. Some of these are "Why doesn't he call after a date", "Why does he look at porn", "Why does he go to strip clubs", "Why won't he commit to me", "Is it ok for a woman to ask a man out on a first date", etc etc.
A folder like this would serve two purposes: It would provide space for those of us with longstanding differences on these topics (and who are feeling ornery) to debate them without disrupting some poor new person's post. It would also provide someplace for us to point to when a new person asks one of the frequent questions, so those of us who have been on this board for years can stop writing exactly the same text over and over and over again.
Another idea: a folder entitled "The Man's View" which specifically asks our male posters their opinions on common "opposite sex" questions and concerns. There could be a corresponding "The Woman's View" folder as well. Again, these would be great to link to for new posters with common problems.
I too dislike the "battle of the sexes" concept on a number of levels. 1) I don't want to battle men, unless I'm in armor. I want to gain a better understanding of how they think so I can improve my relationships with men rather than constantly banging my head against a wall. 2) I'm not a typical woman, and I don't come down on what you refer to as the "girl's side" in most male/female debates. Just ask GoGoBear. ;-) So this format REALLY doesn't work for me on a personal level.
