Text message - confused?!

I'm just trying to make sense of a simple text.
I have know this guy for about 1 yr, we cross paths at work (large company) once in a while, participate in some volunteer stuff once a year and have mutual friends.
The other night (Friday), he asked me to sushi - we went, had a great time and as he got out of my car (his truck is in the shop) he said 'give me a call later in the week if you want to hang out'.
I went against my "dating with out drama advice" with the reassurance of a good friend and texted later the following evening (Saturday) to say 'had a good time last night, hope you have a great weekend'.
I didn't hear back from him Saturday evening, but got a text tonight (Sunday) say "sorry I didn't respond last night, was working and didn't get home till almost 12pm. Glad you had a good time."
Ok - I'm not sure of what to make of this.. I thought he may have mentioned he had a good time too .. but he didn't?
Next question - do I call him later in the week to see if he wants to get together again? and just a side note.. I thought the text would have been a type of 'encouragement' for being interested.. am I wrong?
Thanks in advance for the advice!
I'm quite confused!
