Okay, I need help deciphering what my friend said to me. We work together and are good friends. He's told me he cares about me and that our friendship means a lot to him. We've never gotten together outside of work. The other day I was going to be going to a meeting with a friend of his and he told me that if the 3 of us went out drinking, he'd really be in trouble with all the stories that would get told. I said the two of should go out sometime. He then made a comment that the two of us couldn't go out drinking together because he'd surely lose his job. What does this mean? He went out to happy hour with a few other coworkers later in the week. So I'm confused!! Any idea what he's talking about? And where do I go from here?

Saying he likes you etc., doesn't necessarily mean he is interested in being anything more than people who work together. It comes across as rude to just answer, "no," so people will give an excuse or explanation to go along with it. This is not meant to be taken literally or figured out. His answer, unfortunately, was "no,"

I wouldn't read much into all the stuff he said about getting in trouble, losing his job and all that.

What he's talking about is going out drinking (with you....not a bunch of co-workers).
