Why doesn't he recognize my name

There's this guy I've been working with who I've developed sort of a crush on.  Weve been thru a few meetings together, sent numerous emails, he's given me a tour of the new location (he works there and I am soon transferring to that location).  we flirted a little when I've been in town but nothing really much. Anyways, I called him the other day and said, hi (his name) this is (my first name) and he waits a beat and than says "who?" To which I respond with my full name and then he laughs a little and then says oh, I didnt recognize the number.  I have an unusual name, not like Megan or Kelly, so it wasn't like people with my name call him all the time.  I also had just sent him an email an hour before.  so why didn't he recognize it? Or could he have been pretending not to recognize it?  If so why would he?

Are you certain you're the only person on the planet with a name so unusual that he knows or who calls him?

You also could have just as easily had your audio drop out on his end when you said your name and he didn't catch it, so why do you automatically assume he's playing games with you?

Sounds like you want to start a relationship with him. My recommendation is to not date a co-worker. Most new relationships end than are successful, then you have the awkwardness of seeing each other at work everyday. There are plenty of single men out there. Choose someone who doesn't work with you.

Some people are just bad with names--my boss constantly referred to this one guy as Jeff when his name was Fred--luckily it was only to me, not to the guy, but once he got the wrong name in his head, I had to keep reminding him.  Of course, you have the crush on him--maybe to him, you are just not that important, sorry to say.  So he had to take a minute to remember who you were if he has to deal with a lot of people in his job.
