if he didn't have any hope of the relationship working out??

He seems to be going willingly and we are not married. If a guy, who was not married, was willingly going to couples counseling during a breakup, then he must have some hope of it working out, right??

Guys opinions on this?

Not necessarily.

My ex went to counseling with an ex of his after their breakup because she was having an inordinately hard time with it, and he thought it would help. It didn't, and she took it as a sign that he was still invested in the relationship when really he knew it wasn't going to work but he cared about her and wanted to help her if he could. Ultimately it made the whole thing worse, and I think she still calls him from time to time. They broke up 10 years ago.

I'm not saying this is your case. I'm just saying, it's hard to take any long reaching theory from his attending counseling with you during a break up.

Best of luck to you,
