Second time around?
Mon, 12-30-2013 - 7:16pm

This is my second marriage and his third.  Is there etiquette on wedding dresses the second time around or can I wear what I want?  I'm also 42 so don't want something way out

I don't think anyone believes a sweeping gown would be appropriate, especially for a 3rd marriage.  KiSS, tea length, any color except white.

For my 2nd wedding I wore what was technically a bridesmaids gown but got it in ivory.  It was much less expensive than a bridal gown.  It was a summer wedding and the gown was sleeveless and had some pearl beading on the bodice--no train.  And I didnd't wear a veil.  I just think you have to go for something that looks good on you & is age appropriate--a lot of bridal gowns are really made for young women.

In this day and age, there's no such thing as etiquette!  You can wear whatever you want.  But at the same time, by the time people are on their second and third marriages, it doesn't make much sense to have a big blow out......a simple dress or suit seems appropriate......and a very small gathering of the immediate family.  I've known a few women who "eloped" for their first marriage, so the second time they did it up big......but really, a 45-50 year old woman in a fancy "ball-gown" type of dress looks wierd, too.  Bottom line, you wear what you want.
