Since I've had to start "new" with this one after the hard drive was wiped clean, I bit the bullet and decided it was time for a newer model. I've had so many freezeups and lost data in recent weeks that I'm ready to tear my hair out in clumps!

Yay!!! I hope it arrives today, and I hope you're able to get the Gateway good to go as a backup laptop.

Good for you. I'm in the market for a my first laptop. My oldest dd's dh works for UPS & they get discounts if I have him order it for me. I also need a new printer {thinking of getting a 4 in 1 from Kodak} my dh wants us to get a couple of mac laptops (the computer I'm using is 10 years old) so he needs a computer/laptop for his business/pleasure. Me just because I want my own computer, so I can design cross stitch patterns & knitting patterns, my photos.

Thanks, Jen! The laptop should be here today, it's delivery date, but of course, I was anticipating it earlier since the 3 in 1

Hi, Sam! So nice of you to drop by for a visit!

Actually, when it comes to computers, I do prefer the desktop model, but mine is throwing screens at me and will now open windows so it needs some more work. I love the Microsoft wireless mouse and wave keyboard I added to it a couple years back for they are easy on the arms, shoulders and hands as you type. The compact keyboards on a laptop take getting used to, and learning all over again about bad typing habits in your keystrokes. I've also found this 17" size much easier to work on than smaller screens.

I've never used a Mac but understand they are a pretty nice computer and more user-friendly. That's pretty important! Sounds like you've got a pretty good deal to work out to get one, and a 4 in 1 printer! I could not turn down this sale Dell had....$899 for the laptop (17.3" screen) and $57 for the 3 in 1 wireless printer (their 4 in 1 wireless one was $87, but I didn't need fax) free shipping, and if paid for in six months, it is same as cash. (Think I wrote that right! lol) I didn't want all the interest added on, so will pay it off fast. They instantly approved me for a Dell account too, which surprised me! Thought you had to wait a few days for approval....

You will LOVE having a laptop as an extra puter, Sam! They're marvelous, an you get used to them pretty quickly! I use a wireless mouse with mine and find I like it better than using the mousepad exclusively. It's a Logitech and I paid $20 for it on sale 4 years ago, they're normally about $35.

Stop by and tell me all about your new computer equipment when you get it! Would love to hear all about it, and just simply to hear from you again! It has been a lonnnnng time! HUGGS.....

I had a Canon 4 in 1 printer that I'd just bought new ink for and not used so I gave it to my youngest DD this weekend as she

BTW, Sam....I was in Big Lots today, and they had 3 all in one printers there, one an HP, for $59.00, and one was a wireless! Thought I'd let you know so you could keep an eye out, providing you have a store somewhere in your neighborhood. I think I'd mentioned that my wireless Dell cost $57 and the shipping was free. I've use it already and it prints beautifully. I understand HP is quite a nice printer as well.

Thanks for letting me know. The only thing I need to worry about is the cost of the ink. Have wireless will/is important as my sister, dh & I will all be using it. (or maybe we need 1 3 in 1/4 in 1) as my sister & I really don't need a fax, but dh's business does.

I had to get a new color printer not too long ago. Walmart had the Kodak ESP3250s for $60-something. It's one of the printer/copier/scanner combos, and the ink is really reasonable. I paid $28-something for my last set of replacement cartridge packs, and the pack included both black & white and color.

I understand what you mean about needing 4 in 1 (with fax) and 3 in 1 that is print, copy scan only. I didn't use the fax on the 4 in 1 I gave my DD, and in the 3 years I'd had it, I'd only replaced the ink once. That Canon model even printed on both sides of the page, as well as adjusted or "cropped" to fit an 8x11 document with literally no outer margins, like our property tax forms have, and that was a huge plus. Sadly, the ink for it cost me almost double what the original price was upon first purchase. Not sure how much this Dell printer will charge me, so probably better start saving up my pennies! lol

I have been "printer poor", Jen! Last fall, as soon as I found a place nearby where I could recycle unwanted printers, computers, drives and the like, I donated one printer to them along with other stuff that I no longer used. That left me with two Canon printers, and the 4 in 1 (the one with fax) I paid $400 for, filled it with new ink, then changed my mind and wanted a wireless one, well, I gave it to youngest DD and she was tickled to get it. I still have the second Canon that came free with a desktop puter, and it sits there looking for a "job". lol

Printer ink is getting expensive regardless of what brand we have, but as you say, shopping around can turn up some good buys. I've never had a combo printer that didn't require the extra cartridge of black ink. The small one that's included in the color pack is used to mix black with the primary colors to make a huge variety of other colors. I tried using mine without buying the extra black cartridge, and it signalled it won't work without it. Go figure! No shortcuts there!
