Touches of Springtime!!!

The robins are back around!!! There are six hopping on the lawn and I have seen them back around for about a week. My early crocus are blooming, and yesterday the temp finally got to about 60º.

The temp thing is big! We set an all time record for most days in a row w/o reaching 60º. The last time we saw 60 was about Thanksgiving, and thats a loooooong winter, for us.

Yesterday it was warm enough to do some dirt work for the township. The ground was thawed enough and the outside temp wasn't frigid. DH and I took a 5 strand barbed wire fence down, and our 'boss' told the land owner that we would lay out each of the strands of wire so that they could be rolled up. Ug! No...super ugggg!!! A row of trees had been taken out, leaving roots sticking up, the ditch was rutty and a bit muddy, and we whipped the barbed wire across the ditch, unhooked it when it caught on a stick or root and had a nice row of wires on the ground when we finished. Now keep in mind that I have been inside pretty much all winter doing very passive things around here, most strenuous of which was to clean out a couple of china cabinets and pack some stuff away upstairs. The old bod wasn't ready for pulling, balancing, catching my slipping self, bending, and all manor of contortion. Today it is reminding me of what I have been doing the past few days. (Tuesday with Zane in a playground type place and Wed pushing mom around a mall in her wheelchair, looking at rounder after rounder of clothes).

Today I'm going to the Wichita Lawn and Garden Show. I will mosey and linger a lot. I will intentionally go by myself so I can mosey and linger. The smells and sounds at that show is so relaxing. As soon as I finish my coffee and take my shower, I'll be on my way. I hope I don't meet anyone I know. (my bad)

I hope each of you also can enjoy some springtime promise. The weatherman says we might even get some thunderstorms this weekend! Nothing quite like a Kansas thunderstorm!

Your plans sound awesome Teresa. Especially after the abuse you put your poor body through. LOL I long for a bit to myself. School is out for Spring Break so for the next 10 days I will have every waking moment chosen for me. LOL I have a scratchy sore throat and a little cough so I don't think my DH is coming home this weekend although he is only about 100 miles away. He doesn't want to get sick. Sure would be nice to have him here though. I need to make a trip to the grocery store and it is quite an experience with my 'helper' along with just me. The plan was for all 3 of us to go so I would have a bit of help with my help. LOL But I do it all the time so I can do it now. Just don't feel like myself so it will be a chore today.

I used to love rainstorms. Especially in the summer when it cooled everything down. I could sleep like a baby. It rains too much where we live now though. Took the edge off. LOL

Did you send that scratchy throat & sniffles my way??? I'm thinking mine is allergies, but nothing is blooming. Will start using the gel under my nose that catches the pollen soon - it worked well last year.

You sound just like me - wanting to mosey alone. I had to take back a quilt batting this week. DH was with me when I shopped and rushed me into making a decision. Not a good idea. There is a quilt show 40 miles from here this weekend and I'm going to try to go over on Sunday. I know this isn't something DH will want to attend. That is, unless there is a gun store next to it - LOL. I love being able to sit and sip coffee while looking over the flyers that one picks up at these places. Hope you've made plans to avoid cooking when you get home - me thinks you're gonna be pooped out.

I had a really good time. I ate lunch at Granite City. I had half a sandwich and beer/cheese soup. Then to the flower and garden show and I moseyed and smelled and sat and enjoyed. I also saw a gal I went to high school with. She and her DH started 'going steady' the same weekend that DH and I did, and we were married about the same time too. It was crazy with her yesterday. The show covers probably 4 or 5 acres with isles and booths all over the place. We met probably 6 times. We decided that if we were trying to find each other, we would have never seen each other.

There were lots of water features and water falls and fountains and flowers and rocks and grass and wonderful stuff. I really enjoyed the afternoon.

Then DH called, could I pick up a hydraulic hose for the backhoe if they have one? Sure, I guess. He called back to say they didn't have one on hand, but they could make one if they brought in the original. Sooo...DH and DS came to Wichita and we met and had supper together at a really good bbq place. The guys went home and I stayed in town and shopped a while longer. The only down side to the whole day was that I left town during rush hour. I drove around an accident (non injury, big fender bender w/ 3 cars) and the traffic moved at about 30 mph where the speed limit is 60-65. I was glad to get out of town, but it could have been worse. The rush hour driving was all 4 and 6 lanes and very familiar. It's the same route I take to see the grandkids.

Today was rather relaxed, 60º and a good day. I hope yours was the same!
