Being in your 30's

How old are you currently?

When you turned 30, did you have a hard time with it or was it just another birthday?

When you were younger, how did you picture your life in your 30's and how is it different from the way your life is now (or how it is the same)?

What do you like about being in your 30's?

Is there anything that surprises you about being 30+, something you did not expect?

Do you remember a time when 30+ sounded "old"?

Have you ever found yourself thinking something is more for people in their 20's, for example "I'm not going to wear those pink go go boots now that I am 30+" - or do you do just do what you want without thinking of stuff like that?

Do you dread turning 40 or will that just be "another birthday"?

Any special goals on tap, for the remaining years of your 30's?

**30.

When you turned 30, did you have a hard time with it or was it just another birthday?
**It was pretty hard for me. But only a little harder than any other birthday. Birthdays have been hard for me since my mid-twenties. Now that I'm engaged, I think I'll feel much better about it all. Yes, I know how that sounds and I'm not proud of that, but it's true.

When you were younger, how did you picture your life in your 30's and how is it different from the way your life is now (or how it is the same)?
**I guess the job I have is similar. I thought I'd be making more money, would own a house, be married, and have a kid or two by now. Hopefully, I'll have a more stable and higher paying job in the not-to-distant future. And I'm engaged and we're in the process of buying a house and have agreed to start trying for kids in about 2 years. So it'll all happen, just a few years later than I thought.

What do you like about being in your 30's?
**Things are feeling a little more stable. I feel that people take me a little more seriously. I've only been working at my current job for 3 years, but I already feel a slight difference in how my students treat me. I get mistaken for a student a little less often. And I think I was taken slightly more seriously by my real estate agent than I might have been even just a few years ago.

Is there anything that surprises you about being 30+, something you did not expect?
**Only that I guess I thought I'd feel older and more settled by this age. I feel like I'm not old enough to be 30!

Do you remember a time when 30+ sounded "old"?
**Yes. Sometimes, it still kind of does!

Have you ever found yourself thinking something is more for people in their 20's, for example "I'm not going to wear those pink go go boots now that I am 30+" - or do you do just do what you want without thinking of stuff like that?
**Yes, short skirts, distressed jeans (though I think they're kind of ugly anyway), etc. I still have some short skirts, but I don't really wear them anymore even though I kind of want to sometimes.

Do you dread turning 40 or will that just be "another birthday"?
**Like I said earlier, now that I'm engaged, I'm not really too worried about it. If we have fertility problems, I think getting older will freak me out. Otherwise, I think birthdays will be okay from now on.

Any special goals on tap, for the remaining years of your 30's?
**I want to have kids, stay in shape, and continue climbing regularly through my 30s. And get a tenure track position at work. I think that's about it.
