Co worker drives me nuts!!!

I'm new to this board so I hope this ok to post. We hired this guy about a month and a half ago. He is a super hard worker (says yes to everything, stays really late when he doesn't really need to, has to tell you enthusiastically the next morning just how late he stayed)and golly-gee nice. While this in and of itself sometimes makes me want to vomit, I guess I'm all for his general go-getter attitude. Maybe he isn't jaded yet like the rest of us. hee. just kidding.

anyway, my problem with him is that he hovers ALL the time around my and my bosss's office. I pretend to look busy and stare at my computer, but that doesn't make him go away. And the problem is he is SOO nice! He will come by my office every time he runs out to ask me if I need anything. He check in with me anytime he runs downstairs or goes out for something. This is not part of his job description and I told him it's perfectly ok to not check in with me, but he says in his perky way that he loves to to do it. The problem is, I don't. When my boss was in my room the other day he was having a serious discussion with me about he and his wife. The hoverer came by and then just stood at my door and kind of just stood there. Now we stopped our conversation dead as if to say, "do you need something?" In fact, I usually say that to see if that can get rid of him sooner. I don't want to be rude and say, "um, we were having a private conversation here, do you mind???"

He is just so sweet and helpful, but it drivers me nuts. How do I get him to leave me alone without being rude?

I think you are going to need to be blunt with him!

I am not sure how blunt I would be because he's a nice guy, but next time he hovers, I would just tell him that you have work to finish and would he mind leaving you alone right now. If you do this a few times, he might just get the hint. If he doesn't, then I might talk to his superior and let him know that you have a job to do and this guy needs to be kept busier.

Just my 2 cents.
