Father's Day is less than two weeks away and I realized, that we don't exactly celebrate men very much on our board, so I thought with this holiday fast approaching, it might be a good idea to celebrate the men in our lives.

So...

My dad, at 70, is probably one of the healthiest people in my family. After my mom passed away, he finally went to the doctor to get a check-up and discovered he had high blood pressure. Since then, he manages it with medication and diet. He's religious in taking his blood pressure and writing it down and he got us all eating whole wheat bread and sea salt! My mom has been gone almost 10 years and he's never even given a fleeting thought about remarrying; he and my mom were high school sweethearts and that was good enough for both of them.

While he's officially past retirement age, he still helps my brother with the farm and probably will until he can't help anymore. If he didn't have something to do, be it farm work or going down to the CO-OP to drink coffee, I think he'd go crazy. He's the smartest person I know and could put any college professor to shame with what he knows. He's taught me how to take care of family, how to treat other people, how to make myself a valuable asset at work, and how to take care of myself on my own. He's lived a hard life but he's the most influential man in my life. We live too far apart for me to see him on Father's Day and they'll probably be in wheat harvest full-swing but I'm planning a big package to send to him for Father's Day.

I don't know what I'll do for Father's Day with C this year. Probably box up some things in their house and start the moving process for them.
