Have you ever met someone that is so stuck in their ways that they are unable to handle change?

well it would be easier to tell him to get off his duff IF you were more than friends... friends however are not so easy to tell to do something, anything...

You can't force people to change. Change only happens when the person wants to change or recognizes the need to change. It doesn't sound like he wants to change so you might have to accept the fact that he doesn't want to make a change and give him some time to figure it out on his own. It also sounds like a toxic friendship; if it is, it might be wise to weight the pros and cons of your friendship with him and decide if it's worth keeping. Toxic friendships only drain both people and make them bitter.

It sounds like he's his own worst enemy. It's been my experience that people really need to want change in order to implement any. As my mom used to say.. you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Don't let this person wear you down or waste your time.. they're like emotional vampires and will suck the life out of you if you let
