how do you meet people?

I'm at home with my toddler, and just feel so lonely.  It's hard to meet people my age since I'm not working anymore, and there aren't a lot of moms in the neighborhood.  Most of the women seem to work or are off somewhere.  I see other moms on the playground, but they all seem rather cliquey and unapproachable, or maybe it's just me :(  My daughter has some issues with her muscle tone, so I wonder if I worry too much about comparisons being made.    Watching how advanced other kids are makes me feel bad for her.   Is there a place where I can meet more laid back moms who will be understanding of her issues?

Is there a support group at your local children's hospital? If not a support group, might they offer some sort of play group for other children like her? That might help you meet other moms going through similar situations, and you might feel you can relate more easily with them.

I don't have kids, but I did joing the LLS Team in Training program to meet others. I completed my first half marathon with the team in April of this year. I'll admit that I really don't feel super close to many of the people involved with the Team in Training program besides one other woman who was on the team for her first time with me, too. She is currently training for another half marathon this fall, and while I'm not running this fall, I've taken on what's called the ambassador role; so, I still see the other lady and have helped her with fundraising over the last month.

Good luck!
