I met this guy.  I am 37 and he is 41 - he seems perfect for me.  So far we had only one date.  I find it very easy to talk to him.  We have a few things in common.  However, he told me he is $7,000 in debt.  Is this a normal thing these days?  I was surprized he told me so I didn't really ask questions.  Do any of you know others in debt like he is?  Is this normal?  I mean I finally meet someone I like and it's rare to find guys who DON'T want kids (because I don't either) but now I have to deal with his debt? !!!!

Probably depends on the person. Questions you could ask him if he's continuing to rack up debt, if that was related to some expense that he wasn't prepared for and if he has plans to pay it off. I'm surprised that it would come up on the first date, I wonder if he has had past issues with girlfriends regarding his spending habits. I guess only time will tell if this is a constant issue or a one time deal.

thanks.  I guess he felt comfortable telling me. It was at the end of our date.  We spent almost 2 hours walking at Central Park and then another hour at Starbucks.  We have so much in common, we both love to walk, have almost the same name, he doesn't like going to the gym either, he was almost going to buy a new pair of sneakers because they got dirty when he helped his friend in his garden - IDK - it's just weird..... all the things in common...  maybe I will ask him, thanks.

most of america has debt higher than that,

at  least he can be honest with you and tell you,

that right there is some real points!
