Chris,

Living in Arizona now, it's been a few years since I've had to warm my insides up! When I lived in Chicago, though, I loved both hot chocolate and hot cider. Evenings spent in front of a fireplace, or outside at a bonfire were always nice, too.

I don't have any recipes to share; I'm not terribly domestic in the kitchen (I'm a good cook, but don't care much for baking). I do make an exception, however, during Thanksgiving and Christmas:)

I put up my Halloween decs last weekend. I pretty much stick to just the living room and the front yard, but go all out in these areas! My favorite kinds of decorations are ones that are animated and/or light up:)

Ooh, I love to decorate! Heehee! What type of food do you like to cook? You mentioned that you liked to cook? Go ahead and post a family fav, or a personal fav. I'm trying to see if this thread generates enough interest to ask for a new folder. We'd call it something like....*Entertaining*...as I realize there's all sorts of different women here, not just wives, and homemakers, so I wanted to get input of decorating tips, ideas, recipe swaps, cooking clubs, or dinner clubs, that sort of thing, cuz all women can relate to those issues, not just us married ones. Heehee! It's all about the 30s, ladies!

Also, what types of things did you use to decorate for halloween?

Well, I'll have to get back to you on actual recipes, as I don't have any of them on me right now. I can tell you a few things I've done when "entertaining". We recently had some friends visit for a long weekend. I knew there were a couple of restaurants I wanted to take them to, but also knew we couldn't eat out every meal. I took the afternoon off before they arrived, and pre-made a lasagna and a breakfast casserole. This way I didn't have to spend precious time in the kitchen. I also made sure I purchased fresh bagels, English muffins, for the other mornings. Since they have a 2 hour time difference, I was worried they may wake up before me, so wanted something tasty, yet easy to "make" available to them.

Something else I recently did: I hosted a "craft day" at my home a couple of weekends ago. I invited all the gals in my family and a couple of friends to get together and make stuff. I printed up these really cute invitations on the computer and mailed them to everyone. Since they were coming over for lunch, I just bought some deli meat/cheese and some croissants, and made a pasta salad. I also bought some strawberry sorbet, and served it in these cute little dessert cups my Grandma gave me several years ago (I'd never used them before). We had some nice, light music in the background (alternated between big-band and jazz), and just had a great afternoon!

As for my Halloween decs, it's all your pretty standard stuff: a lot of ceramic pumpkins and ghosts, a couple of animated haunted houses, lots of spooky candles. I'm a complete organization freak, so have theme areas in my house. For example, I took the painting down over the fireplace, and cleared everything off the mantle. This is where I put all of my "skeleton" themed stuff (candles, strobe light skull, hand-made wooden skeleton, etc). My entertainment center is all ghosts, and my sofa table and end tables are all pumpkins. There are a few items in my living room that I couldn't just "take down", so covered them with fake spider-webs to help them blend.

My front yard has lots of "pumpkin" lights, a scarecrow, a few tombstones in the flower bed, and spider webs covering the shrubs.

I don't decorate nearly as much for Halloween as I do for Christmas:) I'm actually at the point where I even decorate my bathrooms; I'm thinking about putting up a Christmas shower curtain this year!

What kind of decs do you put out for Halloween?

For the past two years, I've been in a 4 bedroom apt, upstairs. So...my big deco is on the balcony, and in the living room and dining room, oh, and something on the front door.

This year, as DH is fresh out of the military, and this is the first time EVER that he could actually have a hand in decorating, I turned it over to him. I know ,scary, eh? LOL! But he did an excellent job.

On one part of the balcony, he put up glow in dark spider webbing, and has this HUGE black spider coming down from the ceiling! LOL! Looks like something out of a scary movie! LOL! on another side, he's got some more of that webbing, and a skeleton hanging in the middle of it! LOL! Heehee! We also have soem witches and ghosts on the balcony, and DH put a black light in place of the regular light on the patio. We've also got a lil ghost with red eyes, that plugs in for lights. And then, we've got some crazy eyes, peeping out of one of my 3 window boxes, and it's battery operated. Not bad for a balcony, eh? Heehee! He also put some grim reaper looking thing on the door knocker...Heehee!

Inside, I put of my various ceramic pumkins, statues, etc., all fall and halloween related. I've got my cake candles out, and on the dining room table, I have a halloween table cloth, the kids love it....and a bowl of those cute little gourds, and we'll be adding some that we've painted, as well. Not much, but it's effective! Heehee!

By the way, you're entertaining for your guests, well, all I can say is WOW! Great organization! You could run a bed and breakfast!
