The huge meal that white supremacist Lawrence Russell Brewer ordered and then left untouched before his execution Wednesday has convinced Texas officials to end the state's traditional practice of giving death row inmates a "last meal" of their choice.

Oh, I'm a bit torn. Do they deserve a meal of choice? Probably not since I don't think they offered their victims the same courtesy. This guy's request was completely ridiculous, though. Did you see all the stuff he requested? I'm surprised they brought all of it to him!

I did see it! They should have limited it to 1 meal, lol. He had several meals in one. I agree that the victims don't get the same courtesy.

I saw this article the other day and was actually surprised that last meals were still being honored.

I was surprised too. They are closing prisons all the time and the ones that are left are faced with harsh over-crowding.
You have excellent ideas on how to handle the last meal.

There was something on CNN that I saw over the weekend about this. They did take away special meal requests after this last fiasco. Now, the final meal for death row inmates will be whatever the rest of the prison population is having. They're also taking lunch off the menu on weekends.

Here's the story (I went back to find it): http://money.cnn.com/2011/10/21/news/economy/texas_jail/index.htm
