Scary! Friend with cancer

My friend/former office mate is undergoing a double mastectomy today. She was diagnosed with breast cancer just a few weeks ago (she was 36 weeks pregnant with her second little boy). She delivered her son last week and now has to have surgery and start chemo. She is 32.

It came as a total shock to all of us. I am so sad and scared for her, and praying that the treatments kick this cancer's behind!

It also brings up old issues for me - my mom is a breast cancer survivor of 16 years who also had a mastectomy and lymphectomy.

I will have my first mammogram next year, when I turn 35, because I am at higher risk with my family history.

Moments like this make me very thankful for my good health, but also a bit worried. You just never know.

My mom has a double-whammy -- breast cancer and MS. The MS is what worries me for her now -- she seems to have beat the cancer.

I do feel good

>>I like doing things with the high schoolers (even though it is small) because I think if they know about it earlier in life, they might

and much like your mom.. i too was scared to tell anyone i had m.s. too... because of their fears of not knowing what the heck i had/have.. I watched so many people i called friends walk away.. and i was mad and hurt all at the same time, when i decided to join the dating world again after the 1st hubby passed.. i was terrified OF having to scare off the guy's by this little nugget of joy... and luckily i found the one guy who has even bigger pains then my m.s. causes me... and he is mr. blown discs in his back..LOL a marriage made in heaven...

She made it through surgery just fine and is now resting at home. I am not sure yet when she starts chemo. I'm guessing they will give her a little recovery time before that.

Thanks for asking. :)
