I really don't want to come off sounding harsh but you said you can finally stop thinking about him....then why does it matter if he lives closer to you? Maybe they moved because of housing costs.
As long as this guy is still in your mind I think it makes it harder for you to move on. Not necessarily with someone else, but just moving forward in general. It's like he has some sort of hold over you, your mind(I've been there). It will be so liberating when he truly doesn't matter!!
