What is commitment to you?

After asking a prospective male friend if he was interested in more (which he definitely WAS), I asked him about commitment. He said he didn't think he could offer it.

So my question to all of you is...

what is commitment to you?

happy holidays,

Commitment means long term relationship, generally marriage.....that no matter what happens, good times, bad, sickness, health, and all that...that you'll be there for each other. And for MOST PEOPLE, it implies the house, the car, babies, and the dog/cat in the back yard.

So maybe....if that's not what you meant when you said commitment....maybe that's what he heard and maybe you just scared him to death LOL....maybe you should talk to him about what you meant by "commitment" :)

I think people get used to eachother and when they like eachother besides having to like one another because they are family, they will find a way to get married (move in, put some permenancy on things), and since everyone is different I believe commitment comes from really knowing a person. In my past if I got to know somebody well, I didn't let them go out of my life until it was clear that they were drifting to different activities, libidos, interests and then it seemed that growing got into the way of being together.

While ultimately, I see "commitment" as marriage, I also see it as being in an exclusive relationship. You're not saying "we're going to get married someday", but are saying that, at least for the time being, you wish to be in a relationship with just this one person.

Maybe your friend got freaked out thinking you were talking about marriage?
