DH's 50th BD

The 8th was dh's 50th BD & we went to MIL's for her party. I was making a new cap for dh (he keeps losing them) BIL & the 2 neices were there. We live 45 minutes to a hr away from MIL & I always have to use the bathroom as soon as we get there. BIL got upset because I didn't say hello to him as soon I came in the dr (I did hug MIL & told her I need to use the rest room) as I came out of the bathroom I hear BIL complaining to dh that I was being rude by not saying hello to him first. Dh just told him to be nice or I would just leave.

So we went to dinner & we were chatting (dh is sitting to my right & BIL/MIL are across from dh) dn #2 is having trouble deciding what she wants & I asked her if she like chower soup? She told me yes, so I told her I was going to order a seafood salad & it came w/chowder & she could have it if she wanted it. She's 10 & wanted to know why I couldn't eat & so I'm trying to explain to her about my lactose intol, when BIL jumps in & tells her that means Auntie Sam can't have eggs & cows milk. I polietly explain that I can have eggs but not dairy stuff from cows. She seemed to accept what I was telling her. So my chowder comes & I handed it over to her. DH told her she needs to try my seafood chowder, it's pretty darn good.

We went back to MIL for cake, (I wasn't allowed to make dh a cheesecake, MIL order dh a cake) oldest niece is 13 & bit into the chocalte cake with lemon filling, she blurts out what's this gross filling. I LOL (I was thinking thank god it's not my kid this time) when MIL tells her I picked it out (turns out dh had picked it out, he yelled at me for "clacking at MIL" I wasn't crackling & I told him he was being mean as he & BIL were yelling at MIL, & usual I came to her defence--I never crackled at her) I told him he was out of line for being rude to me. I finished his hat last night at midnight. Left it for him at his spot at the breakfast table to find. I called him after I got up this morning to see if he liked it, he said it's really nice & warm. Now oldest SIL wants me to make him 1 too.

Yay!! You survived! I dislike spending time with my ILs, too. It's just too stressful, and I always find myself looking for reasons not to go.

What kind of hat did you make? I just finished one for DH. It's this one: http://punaisensydamentorppa.wordpress.com/2008/11/12/jacques-cousteau-hat/

I used a dark blue wool. I like how it turned out, but I don't think it's one he can wear all the time. It's super warm, so I think this will probably be his snow shoveling hat.

Jen,

I made him a WWII watch cap. Do you belong to Raverly? If not you need to join. One of young ladies that I knit with in Seattle was making it. She told me I could find it there. I did it up on circular needles & made the 1st up in 3 days, I was worried that my knitting friend was going to kill me (she had been working on hiers for over 3 month as she only knits when she with us) I've made 3 or 4 over this last yr. DH came home last night & tells me, oh it could of been deeper. Nope it couldn't I used up 3 skiens of yarn, only have 2 very small balls of yarn left. He always finds something wrong with whatever I knit him. This anoys the holy heck out of me.

Nice pattern! I've got it tagged for later. :)

I'm on Ravelry. I love all the pattern ideas and yarn suggestions I find there.

It's just super warm. It's not cold enough outside yet for him to wear it. Plus, I don't think he's a huge fan of the color. He wanted black, but I have 10 skeins of that blue color that needs to be used (I bought it for one project then changed my mind). I think it's going to be more of a practical/functional hat for him. He's been asking for an R2D2 hat for a while now. I guess I'll make one for him and put it in his Christmas stocking.

First off you need to try using my dyslexic speller, but the way the wicked witch of the west laughed.
