Jail or church?

A small town in Alabama has given non-violent offenders a choice between going to jail or going to church. The ACLU wants the program suspended because the government cannot force religion on a person. Here is a link to the story:

What are your thoughts? If you were the one who had to choose, would you go to jail or go to church?
Jail
Well since I was pretty much forced by my Mother to go to church for 18 years and I never 'fell in love with Jesus" and look how I turned out LOL. I guess I would choose church. At least you have freedom the rest of the time and you can pretty much tune out the church stuff. At least I can hehe
But I do think its a ridiculous idea and forcing religion on someone is never right.
My question??? Where the heck is the ACLU?! Isn't this establishment of religion by gov't? :O
What would I choose? Go to church. Then do a cleansing ritual with my Goddess and God, who understand all about bigotry and abuse of gov't, as there is a long history of it by abusive people. Then go home. Have the rest of my time to be a Pagan but be safe. Jail is not a safe place, after all...if it got out someone refused church to stay in jail, what kind of abuse would that entail, by other inmates as well as prison employees?! :|

I agree, Gypsy. To me, this is unconstitutional. Hopefully, as a non-violent offender, the prison time wouldn't be long and the people would not be placed within the general prison population that houses the violent offenders. Given the choice, I would take the jail time and fight like crazy to have this program overturned.
I havent seen you post with us before, so I just wanted to say Welcome to the board. Hope you will stick around and continue posting. Love to hear what you have to say.
Peace,
