I know that 4 of the points of the 5 pointed star in our Pentagram stands for Air, Water, Fire, and Earth, but I've read different statements as to what the 5th point stands for. Several comments say that the top point stands for 'Spirit', but nothing

I've heard that the fifth one stands for spirit or humankind or mental powers. But I've mostly heard that it stands for spirit, which would make sense to me, since I've always added in spirit when it comes to the elements.

When you add the circle it becomes a pentacle. In the Tarot that means the suit of coins. I think that also adding the circle means that it emcompasses all the elements into one.

From what I understand, pentagrams were used in ancient Greece and Sumer. The ones from Sumer date back to 3000 BCE. And Pythagoras used it, so it goes back to at least

Good Morrow Sisterhoney,

I'd like to ask everyone about wearing a Pentagram

Back when I was a Wiccan I did wear a pentagram in public, but I never had anyone say anything about it. When I was working at Books a Million my boss was a Witch, but she told me not to wear it at work, because she didn't want any hassles from the customers (yet she allowed the Christian employees to wear their crosses). The store I worked in had about three and a half dozen shelves in the Christian section and about five shelves in the New Age/Pagan section. 'Nuff said.

I still have my pentagram, though as a Druid, it really isn't my symbol anymore. But because it's so beautiful, I don't want to part with it. I did wear it to the Renaissance faire once and got some comments on how lovely it was. But then again, a lot of Pagans participate in the faire.
