Apples? Pumpkin Seeds???

Does the type of apple matter when it comes to Glycemic Index? I've looked online...but didn't find anything about them. I like Granny Apples...which taste less sweet to me...I was hoping it would be to my advantage!! :)

I LOVE roasted pumpkin seeds...homemade of course just with basic seasonings and a non-fat cooking spray...does anyone know if these are ok for us on SBD?

I'm in Phase II...definitely come to a point where I'm not loosing anymore...at least this 1st week in Phase II.

Any information would be great! Thanks in advance.

Amy, Go very slowly on Phase 2 by adding those carbs. Don't worry I maintained for 3 weeks on Phase 2 and being frutstrated I went to the prevention board for advice and a lady had the same problem as I did with pleateauing. She said that after the plateau she started to lose 2 lbs. one week and 3 lbs. the next, so hang in there. She was right I lost 1/2 lb and I'm very Happy.

As far as apples are concerned I buy the small ones.I know the GI list doesn't give you portions I guess it not necessary but remember the calories are less in a small apple.

I really don't know about pumpkin seeds, but I'm sure some one on this board can give you that information.

It is very frustrating...I just don't understand why we stop loosing...after all the things we gave up. It hasn't bothered me to give them up though...I enjoy the diet and I don't feel guilty after eating a big meal because I know that everything I just ate was good for me. But the fact that I'm stuck at this weight and continue to eat healthy. I am 5'2" I started at 137, I'm down to 128, but my goal weight is 115.

As for adding back carbs...I tried oatmeal...which was good and didn't gain from it...but felt hungry afterwards. Strawberries have been working well for me...along with an apple for a snack. I haven't added back anything else yet. I bought Smart Pop Popcorn...I'd love to add that back, but I hestitate because I LOVE popcorn...I just want to make sure I don't over do it. Anything you can suggest to add back that didn't give you problems? Have you started loosing again like your friend that broke her plateau too?

Thanks for your advice.

Pumpkin seeds are allowed. They are the "good" kind of seed. Something to think about when it comes to stalling is calorie count during the day. Even though we don't have to count calories, I still do because the bottom line is, calories DO matter. If you eat too little your body will conserve it's stores and not lose. Then again, if you eat too much, you'll also not lose. post a sample menu and see if we can make some suggestions:)

don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of this!

As far as apples go, the darker the better but any apple is better than none.

I usually have one of these meals...breakfast is usually the same.

Breakfast:

Typically 2 eggs, scrambled or fried in non-fat spray.

Two pieces of canadian bacon

1/2 cup strawberries or a grapefruit

Snack:Pistashios or Pumpkin seeds...which I'm glad to hear they are the good kind of seeds...which I saw somewhere online...but I like to verify with people on here. :)

String Cheese or small apple

Lunchs:

Always my hardest meal to get together.

-Lean Burger, wiht pickles, onions, mushrooms

-Chicker Ceasar salad

-Yesterday I got a Arby's sandwich and just ate the roast beef

I usually add Green beans, brocoli or some kind of veggie steamed

Dinners:

-Made a taco salad last night, low fat cheese, lettuce, and a little sour cream on taco meat

-Marinated Chicken Breast with a veggie

-Tilapia with lemon juice with a veggie

Dessert:

-No Added sugar Fudgesicle

-Jell-o with a little reddi-whip(Fat Free)

-strawberries with reddi-whip

Any ideas where I've gone wrong? I feel like it's pretty well rounded, but I could be missing something that you might see. Let me know...thanks for reading!! :)

I forgot about a couple of things...

my mom and Dad are on the Atkins diet...my mom makes his muffins a lot and I will have one of those for a snack or with breakfast every one in a while.

For dessert, I sometimes have a piece of the Atkins candy...not the whole package...usually just a PB cup (1 of3) which still within the range of 75 calorie sweets.

I tried Oatmeal...it's ok, but I get way hungry after eating it.

I've been eating granny apples...should I get a darker apple? I like Gala apples too...so I could do that too. Why is darker better? What do you think about adding popcorn?

thanks Allison!

I read that the darker red apples have more fiber, then the lighter apples (green, yellow).. gala is fine.

Are you drinking enough water? Drink as many ounces as you are inches tall. I'm 5'0", 60" so I try to drink 60 oz. a day.

Your eating plan looks well rounded, and I would suggest countin the calories. A good place to go is www.fitday.com .

Breakfast, lunch and snacks look good...off the top of my head, you could add more to dinner. Here's my two cents:

***One veggie at lunch might do the trick but dinner you might want two.

***Get some beans in there. That does a great job of filling you up and getting those necessary carbs. I don't know what I would do without them. Lima, navy, butter, kidney...add them to your salad or have them by themselves.

***The taco salad never fills me up. I do the same thing but for dinner, added a cup of black bean soup with the other half of cheese serving and sour cream (I don't have sour cream on the meat)

So all in all, try adding more to dinner. You might be skimping on the calories and these are good ways to get them in to jump start your metabolism.

Let us know how it goes!

The darker the fruit or vegetable, the more vitamins with antioxidants are packed inside.

Popcorn wouldn't be bad but you have to watch your portions. Some bags have 2-4 servings which would total 40-50 carbs for the whole bag. If you have no problem sticking to the servings size, try it and see how it affects you. Also, air popping would be a better choice (i'm not sure if you were microwaving or not:) because of the oils used.

try the oatmeal/cottage cheese pancakes in the book for phase 2. I added pecans this morning and loved it. It has a serving of oatmeal and with some low fat bacon or your canadian bacon, should fill you up for a while.

Also, I had the cauliflower mashed potatoes for the first time and loved them! I'm going to make them a couple of times a week. I've gotten some new ideas this weekend and can't wait to try them.

Hey Alison,

Thanks for all of the advice!

Do you have any suggestions on how to cook the beans? I think that is why I haven't eaten many...because I don't know what to do with them. :)

PopCorn shouldn't be a problem...is there a better time to eat carbs? I love to have popcorn while watching TV or a movie at night. I'm going to get some Gala Apples instead of Granny for the nutrients...I actually like them better anyways. :)

I'm going to check out that recipe for the pancakes...I haven't looked at it...but it sounds decent.

So you think adding calories would help loose weight??? That stimulates metabolism??

Thanks!

I find that eat more beans if they are spicy...my favorite is chick peas with sauteed onions and hot peppers with curry powder or garam masala (whichever you can find). I just put it in until everything is lovely and yellow. Super filling and also makes a good lunch.
