Apples? Pumpkin Seeds???
| Sun, 09-28-2003 - 9:15pm |
Does the type of apple matter when it comes to Glycemic Index? I've looked online...but didn't find anything about them. I like Granny Apples...which taste less sweet to me...I was hoping it would be to my advantage!! :)
I LOVE roasted pumpkin seeds...homemade of course just with basic seasonings and a non-fat cooking spray...does anyone know if these are ok for us on SBD?
I'm in Phase II...definitely come to a point where I'm not loosing anymore...at least this 1st week in Phase II.
Any information would be great! Thanks in advance.

I use canned beans and am starting to use dried beans. I just eat them by themselves or mixed with the cauliflower mashed potatoes. I just follow the directions on the can or bag. Dried are better than canned but frozen are also good choices.
The jury's still out on whether the time of day matters with what you eat. I don't really worry about it. I've seen a girl who was maintaining her weight wonderfully who would have healthy choice pop corn and a diet coke every night. I've never had a problem with my occasional ice cream (carb smart breyers) before bed. I'm still losing. Others have more of a problem. It is just going to be trial and error, i'm afraid. Do you work out? The BEST time to get in those carbs that you are adding to phase two would be before and after a workout. Your muscles are hungry for fuel after the workout and are more ready to take in the energy.
Glad I could help,

There are many ways to the bean thing. Find the canned beans of your choice, put them in a small pot and warm them, or find the frozen beans and use a little water in the bottom and steam them until desired tenderness. Bean making is not a not difficult when using a can. If you want to get creative, get dried black beans. YUM!
Black Beans
1 bag dried black beans (soak over night)
1 small white onion
3 garlic cloves
4 pieces lean bacon (cooked in microwave and chopped)
3-6 cups broth ( I use chicken low sodium, and this depends on if you want beans or a soup)
After soaking beans, discard soaking water, boil in a pot until tender and almost squishy. Saute onion, garlic, and bacon until onions are translucent. Dump beans and water into a collander. Bring to boil your broth ( decide if you want beans or bean soup) Add sauted ingredients and then beans. Simmer on low for 2 hours or until beans are falling apart. Eat with butterball turkey sausage.. WOOOO WEEEEEE!!!!

THANK YOU for all of the responses!! You guys rock! :) The black beans and the chick peas sound delicious.
That makes sense about adding the carbs before/after a workout since my muscles feel like they have been giving up on me very quickly since I started this diet. I'll try that.
I think I'm going to pop some popcorn tonight and rent a movie. I'm just going to check to see the serving size and stick to that. I can't imagine me being able to finish it.
Did anyone get stuck at a Plateau at the first week of Phase II? When did you start loosing again?
Thanks again!

Do you have any suggestions on how to cook the beans? I think that is why I haven't eaten many...because I don't know what to do with them. :)
Steam them (or microwave) then spray with ICBINB (maybe drizzle a little balsamic vinegar over them - just a little)... YUM!
