at the Scale for tomorrows W-I. I had fruit yesterday morn for breakfast. I had a smoothie with L/F yogurt 1/2 c blueberries and crushed ice. Today peeking on the scale I'm up 2 1/2 lbs. This is the first time I saw a gain that large when adding back carbs.I usually see a .5-1 pound gain. I don't know what I was thinking,as I'm on my 5th week on Phase 2. Fruit never bother me during the day,so now there is a lesson learned. A very disappointed Maryann

Do you think that something else might be involved too? Is it getting near your TOM?

Maybe something in the yogurt or something else you might have eaten during the day helped. Did you have anything extra salty over the last couple of days?

It just does not seem that fruit in of itself would cause a 2 1/2 lb. gain overnight.

Hi, Maryann - Been following your informative posts throughout Phase I and you've helped keep me on track, enthusiatic, and realistic.

I doubt very much that some fruit would result in that much of a gain. Bet it's water that accompanies carbs, and also bet it's related to monthly cycle.

Just starting Phase II today - oatmeal for breakfast (couldn't face another omelet right now); hope to continue with steady, smaller losses.

awww...don't let it get you down. I agree with the other girls that something else may be involved (i.e. salt, TOM, not enough water or food in general). Make sure you are eating enough and getting your water. Do you exercise? I forget:) If I eat chinese one night, I can count on a 1-2 pound water weight gain from the salt. I say ok...I'll get that off with an extra 15 minutes and TONS of water throughout the day. Sure enough, by the next day, i'm back. Or maybe the yogurt affects you. Try cutting the yogurt and seeing how it works.

Let us know how you do.

Hi Maryann,

I regularly go up and down a few pounds. Everyone dones. When I hit a new low for the first time that's when I say I've reached such-and-such weight. But the inevitable increase that will come the next day (or within the next couple days), I do not call a gain. If I ate half a pizza and a few days later I was still up a pound, and tending to fluctuate *up* instead of *down*, then I might call that a gain. But I'm not going off the plan like that. And neither did you.

Also, don't forget that this plan isn't any sort of "magic". Yes, the types of foods we eat make it easier to stick with the plan, and keeping ourselves from spiking our blood sugar decreases our tendency to store fat, and keeps us from getting hungry again too fast. But it still takes the consumption of 3500 excess calories to gain a pound of fat, and of course a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound of fat, whether you're doing SB, WW, Jenny Craig, etc.

It's not possible that the smoothie could cause you to gain 2.5 pounds of fat. Any number of things could cause you to register extra weight... fluid retention, not having as large a bowel movement, getting a little dehydrated (causes your body to "hang on" to fluids). For some people, dairy products cause a bit of temporary bloating, too.

Maybe you should consider taking a break from daily weighing. I can be demoralizing.

Hugs, and friendly support to you...

Jill K.

Thanks Ladies for your comments and support. Luckily I don't have Tom any more, he left me 11 years ago.I checked my food journal very carefully and the only thing other than the fruit I see extra large Whole Wheat Wrap(GI 97) that I used in a ham & cheese (wrap) sandwich that I had for lunch.I exercise to my WATP's tapes or walk along the beach for 30-45 mins. I also drink 80-100 oz. water daily. I also watch my sodium intake.I thinking about drinking more water today,as I was told that water flushes out water if thats what it is. Thanks again for responding to my post Hugs Maryann

Sodium in the ham and cheese sounds like one culprit.

A food journaler - I'm impressed. I have got to start doing that right now!
