Hi All! Well Im starting the beach monday! Excited, yes, but I want to make usre I do it RIGHT, so I can succeed. there is SO MUCH info about this diet out thier, sometimes it gets confusing. I just want to go about it BY THE BOOK. So I went grocery shopping to stock up,and I was hoping you all could read over my purchases below and make sure what I plan to ingest in the next 2 weeks is SBD PHASE 1 friendly. I would SO APPRECIATE IT!

ok thats it. Plus I HAD stuff in my house to use for phase one too. Stuff I had before I went to the grocery were things like:black and kidney beans, peanut butter, lentil soup, cauliflower, broccoli etc. I forgot to get splenda(for my hot tea) but Im going to pick some up . Have to stay on my budget!

But I am confused about hte DAIRY thing. In the book it says to avoid all dairy in phase one. But obviously its not ALL dairy when you are ABLE TO eat cheese and cottage cheese in phase one. So is it just milk and Ice cream that are no nos in phase one? Or sour cream too? What about mayo? The books food list isnt too detailed,(squash isnt even metioned in the book)but I dont want to get off track by just believing word of mouth.I want to follow the diet correctly.

The only meat I eat is fish( but thats a new thing for me too, so Im gradually woking into it.....)

so thats why you see few meat products.

I am curious to see how I will do with my sugar craving. I have an insatiable sugar habit. the other day at work, in the course of about 5-6 hrs i ate over 20 tootsie rolls,4 cookies and hot chocolate. then I had soft serve I cream that evening.(and an Ice cream sandwich!) and I couldve kept going- thatll be my biggest downfall. But I need to break the habit once and for all.

Oh BTW one or 2 of my things had maltodextrin in the labels( but they were LEGAL foods- I know theyve been mentioned AS OK FOODS here ) - In the book it said to avoid these products. granted, it was pretty far down on the list. Just curious if anyone has ran across this....

thanks for all the help!

Well, there was nothing on your list that sent off any red alarms in my head. The only thing I saw that I was a little iffy about was the veggie morningstar items. I would check the fat and carbs, then also maybe the ingredietnts to see if they're allowed. Those are actually an item I didn't think of.

There is a few things that maybe you could add for next time. P1 items such as sugar free fudgecicles, and for breakfast you can have 2 slices of turkey bacon. I have this great recipe for PB cookies. I can share if you'd like. And also if your in need of a sugar substitute, Splenda is the best brand to buy. Looks like your set girl! Good luck!

Also, I wanted to comment on the cheese/dairy. Your only permitted low fat cheeses. Kraft makes great cheese with no fat at all. The big thing with dairy is the lactose. So the cheese you'll want to be buying has to be made out of skim milk or have no carbs and the lowest amount of fat possible. :) So thats the deal on that. And mayo, you can help yourself too. Eat away, the doctor does not mind! Also, I hear a lot of people say the end up eating too much peanuts. If you start to feel like that don't worry about it. The book says 20 only, but portion sizes aren't that big of a deal. If eating an extra handful of peanuts will keep you on the diet, then help yourself!

I would tend to disagree on the issues of leaded vs unleaded cheeses. Either would be fine IMHO. I've done both and either seems to work well with me. I don't think it's necessary to demand someone eat unleaded cheese or eat the lower fat alternative. People still drink Caffine beverages and use real sugar (I know.. it's a shocker, but it happens).

Just remember ladies and gentlemen on the board, opinions are like belly buttons, they are all different... some are hidden, some should be hidden, and some are full of fluff. lol.

Thats a good point Ria. :) I have a child, I'm use to people with different opinions lol Sometimes I cheat and use velveeta on some things. I haven't really notices that big of a difference. But I believe the book prefers the non fat cheese. But I have noticed those don't taste too much different then your regular stuff. But nothing melts as good as velveetta...mhmm. lol

thanks for all the help! Im still getting a few things here and there to add to my menu for phase one.

I am a vegetarian,so I wont use real bacon or sausage or the like. I read the labels carefully at the market, and kept my eye out for maltodextrin, partly hydrogenated stuff and the like. Most all of my "fake" stuff I bought had low carbs and mostly good fats- low sugars too.

Any other suggestions are welcome!!

Courtney, You mentioned acorn & butternut squash, which is a no-no even though they are veggies(Dr A. doesn't mention in his book) the winter squashes are starchy veggies and would be under the bread column. Just wanted to let you know.In Phase 2 you can re-enter them in your menu.HTH Maryann
