Hi-

HELP!!!!

I am an ex- Atkinser... couldn't ever stay on it and I felt like I was obsessed with food and counting. A collegue has done the SBD for 8 weeks and has lost 20 pounds! I got the book but after reading it, other than following the menus perfectly- which I am not sure I have time for, I am not really clear on the goal other than cutting out bread, rices, pasta and starches/sugars. The foods to enjoy section for phase one doesn't include any salad dressings... can I do the marie's blue cheese I was allowed on Atkins? I am not sure what to look for on lables- low fat AND low carb??? With the cheeses, when it says foods to enjoy... what do you use as the proper portion?? Does anyone find this hard to follow since there are no calorie/portion/carb counts or do you just follow the menus precisely as written in the book???

Thanks for any help/encouragement... I so much want this to work.

It is rather confusing and I'll try to help as much as I can. I also tried Atkins but I hated counting carbs and eating all that fat. On SBD he doesn't have you count carbs or calories because he emphasizes good fats and good carbs and lean protein. He tells you to eat until you're full.

I don't follow the menus at all. I just try to eat lean meats, low fat or ff cheeses, and tons of veggies (except) ones that aren't allowed. As for salad dressings, he says oil and vinegar. But I have found a few no sugar (although not low fat, but neither is oil and vinegar, but he emphasizes good fats.)

A sample menu for me is: Breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs(sometimes with veggies or cheese) and 2 slices of turkey bacon.

Lunch-Lettuce wraps (low fat lunch meat, low fat cheese, veggies, oil and vinegar or light mayo)

Snack- low fat mozzarella string cheese, or veggies and hummus, or fat free no sugar added fudgesicle

Dinner-Chicken breast with choice of spices, loads of veggies

Dessert- (sometimes) sugar free jello or fudgesicle or ricotta bake

This message board and others have been very helpful.

The rule I've been told to follow is 3 grams of sugar or less per serving. MOST salad dressings should be okay, but caesar is the lowest.

I saw the same rule, and how great it was to eat regular ranch dressing with only 1 gram of carbs per serving today!
