Help with this diet!

I tried the south beach diet for 15 days. I lost all of my sugar craving which was great but I didn't lose one pound. I was really frustrated so I quit it and went back to my old way. Which now I feel horrible so I started it again this am to give the plan a 2nd chance. Has anyone else had trouble with this diet? I would be happy to see just a slight difference to know it's working.

Any advice would be helpful!

THanks,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Sorry you had a disappointing experience with SBD the first go around.

One thing that came to mind when reading your post was what was your sodium intake? Sodium can really make me retain water weight...maybe if you monitor it closely you will see a difference, just a thought.

Also, even though we are not supposed to measure portions, what if you eyeball your portions for a couple of weeks just to make sure you are not overindulging.

I am just starting SBD, so I am by no means an expert :)

Hope this helps and good luck!!

Kelly,I agree with Susan,There is something wrong. Are you eatting from the allowed list, remember no carbs what so ever on Phase 1.Another big thing if your not losing, Are you taking your measurements?????You could be losing inches. Are You eatting the good fats, like peanutbutter, avocardos or using olive oil? Are you drinking your water???Are you exercising??? or Are you near your goal?? All these questions you have to ask yourself. There must be something your not doing right as I never heard of anyone not losing weight or inches. Hope that helps Maryann

P.S. Come back to this board and let us know,we have very supportive ladies here to help you on your weight loss journey.

Hi, Kelly - I'm sorry you've had trouble with SBD. Couple of suggestions that I hope will help:

Portion control - No matter what Dr. Agatston says, it has to be a factor. If you're eating the "good" stuff, you might rationalize that you can go crazy with your protein source. Trim off all visible fat, and really keep a close eye on what you're putting on your plate. Do you have a food scale? Unless you know by sight what an uncooked 3- or 4-oz piece of boneless chicken breast or steak is, measuring things until you know what the quantity looks like can help a lot.

Journaling - Write down every morsel you eat during the day. Own up to it. Include your H2O intake so you can see where you are for the day. Obsessive? Yes, but sometimes a light-bulb for you at the end of the day.

Are you an exerciser? SBD doesn't push exercise, but a little (or a little more of it) certainly helps. And the benefit to your overall health is invaluable.

Maybe sticking to some of the food plans and recipes in the book willl help you this time around. Did you do that the first time, or did you try to wing it by adapting your own favorite dishes?

Keep trying, Kelly. Check in often and read the other posts for inspiration. I think I was ready to do this, but others on this board certainly added fuel to my determination to make a dent this time.

Good luck!

Kelly -

Yes I understand your pain. I too have gone through the SBD with no results. I stuck to everything perfectly - ate what was on the list and nothing else. I drank plenty of water and got my necessary fats - I even exercised almost two hours a day and not one pound was lost - in fact, I find that my pants fit a little tighter than they did before. I am still contemplating whether or not to give it another try as many of my friends tell me that it should have been a successful goaround. If you want to talk about it or perhaps email each other and do this together I am all for team work !

Good luck !!!

I've had similar problems.

I have lost weight, but very slowly. Actually, the first week I lost a total of 3 lbs. Only to have one come right back the next week (which was probably just water weight that was lost the first week and came back on as my body got used to a new way of eating).

I'm 3 days into the second week and have lost nothing. No cheating here either. Yesterday I had my husband (who is a nutrition fanatic) analyze what I've been eating with some computer program he has. I'm not a big meat eater so was skipping the heavy meats. Well, I had written down everything I had eaten all day and when he totalled up the calories I had only eaten 883 calories the entire day. And that was a pretty average day for me. However, I had over 52 grams of fat! Yikes! So there was two problems. Not enough calories and way, way too much fat for a person my height and weight. There is no way I should have been eating that much fat, even if it is the good kind. And obviously with so few calories, I'm killing my metabolism. I wasn't hungry due to all the fat which is supposed to be good, but not when you end up under 1200 calories! This plan makes it easy to eat too little (and possibly too much). So even though I felt like I was following the plan and eating to my appetite, I need to make some changes. Less fat, more veggies. I'm now leaving the yolk out of hard boiled egg, etc.

Another thing is like someone else mentioned, if you don't have a lot to lose, it's going to come off slowly. I'm trying to lose old baby weight so I'm 119.5/117/110 (only 5'3 and not a big frame). When I was whining last night to my dh about it he pointed out that for me to lose 2 lbs is the same percentage for perhaps someone who is taller and heavier. Just not the same pounds. There is no way my body will let me shed weight too fast. Makes sense.

So I think there are just a lot of things to consider that you have to figure out on a personal level - how to make it work for you. If you aren't eating enough, try to eat a bit more. If you are eating too much, curb back. That kind of thing.

Good luck!
