Hi all! I thought I would share a website I found that has a great Glycemic Index (GI) list. I am about the enter P2, and am finding this list very helpful. Good Luck!

That's a good reference. I found it easier to get to using this link:

http://diabetes.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.mendosa.com/common%5Ffoods.htm Page down to get to the chart.

Thanks for the information! I love the chart format - it really helps identify the worst of the worst and the best of the best.

Thanks for the link. The info is very helpful.

I noticed that sweet corn is a low GI food, why is it a vegetable to be avoided?

I have a web site that calculates certain foods from the GI List. Its:

Aussie GI Database

http://www.calvin.biochem.usyd.edu.au/GIDB/searchD3.htm

Hope you like this. I use it once in a while as I have a GI reference book that I look at. Maryann

The Glycemic Load is calculated simply by muliplying the GI value of food by ther amount of carbs. per serving and dividing by 100.

example:

rice: 1c of cooked instant rice has a GI value of 87 and contains 37 carbs.

Glycemic Load will be (87x37) divided by 100=32. How that Helps. Maryann

Hi Maryann,

I've been lurking for almost two weeks now. I'm loving this way of eating, and about to enter phase 2 on Monday. I did not weigh myself from the start, though now I realize the scale plays a part when finding out what does and does not work. Anyway, I have over 50 pounds to loose, so I'm in it for the long haul. My problem is I just don't get the concept of the glycemic load or understand what the equation is explaining/telling me. I actually thought about staying on phase 1 with the exception of adding Red wine, because I'm confused. Can you decipher this for me? ......and thank you for all the kind words and suggestions you have provided others. They have helped me too.

Ellen, The Glycemic Load is your total energy intake and your total carb.intake(Low-

Moderate)

Example:If your aiming for 250 grams of carbs. per day and you want to use 1/2 of your carbs to come from the low GI(<55) list and the other 1/2 from Moderate(65) your total for the whole day would be the glycemic load of 250x55/100=138 (rounded up) or 250x65/100=163(rounded up). Hope I didn't confuse you as I'm new at it myself.Hugs Maryann
