What is important when reading labels?

I am really enjoying phase 1 -- now on day 4. I do have a question about reading food labels ( I could not find information in the book on this). What do we want to focus on -- carb grams? Fat grams? ingredients?

Any ideas what determines if something is allowed on phase 1 and phase 2?

Any help is appreciated!

On pages 126 & 127 there are lists of foods to enjoy and foods to avoid in phase 1 and on pages 198 & 199 there are lists for phase 2.

What kinds of food lables are you reading? If it's something like tuna I wouldn't worry about reading the lable since it's allowed.

On Labels, you should be looking at everything from carbohdrate counts, to fat, to what it is made out of and what type of fats. You want to pick foods, if they are on the allowable list, that are closest to their natural state. You want to stay away from processed foods ---- as much as possible. The food lists are pretty clear on what type - example low fat cheese, etc.

Phase 1 foods do not include anything that is a carbohydrate except for vegetables. That is the big difference between the lists.

Hope this helps a little
