Hey Beachers,

I am about to try to create an apple crisp! I love to make it this time of year, and I think with some apples, splenda, and oatmeal, I should be able to come up with something yummy.

I'll let you know how it goes.

If you come up with a good recipe, I know a lot of people over at the FOF board will be very happy! That's been a frequent topic lately. I made the pumpkin pudding tonight, and it was Heavenly!! My husband loved it too.

It's actually in the November issue of "Prevention." I kept looking and looking in my Oct. issue, then thought maybe it could be Nov. since that arrives in October. It's on page 70.

In pudding, it is usually the modified food starch that gets me. It can be either corn or wheat, but since it is the main ingredient, if it is corn, that's a definite no-no! Other ingredients include dextrose, maltodextrin, and just about anything with dex- in it. I really shouldn't be eating those regular Reese's either, but they don't seem to bother me (there is a fairly small amount in the peanut butter portion).

Interesting note about high fructose corn syrup: a friend of mine was reading a nutrition book, and the subject of high fructose corn syrup was covered. Turns out that this stuff was invented in the late 1970s and in wide use by the early 80s. It was around 1982 that my allergies went completely out of control and less than a couple of years later, we discovered I was allergic to corn. My friend was saying that it's probably not all bad to be allergic to the stuff, since it turns immediately into fat once it hits the body.
