Hi!

I have about 20 lbs to lose and have tried many diet plans... With all of them I initially lose some weight and then i stop... I am considering starting the south beach.. and i was wondering if it was a good investment? (the book) and what u guys think about it...

I've tried atkins before and will never do that diet again because i found it too restrictive. I love fruit and veggie as well as little grain (i can be happy w/ a whole weat english muffin a day).

So basically, should i give this diet a try?

:)

By all means give this plan a try. Hubby and I have been following it for 2 months now. We followed Phase 1 pretty close to the letter for two weeks - tweaked it a bit for a third week and then started to add back in the good carbs. Blueberries, apples, oatmeal, 9 grain toast - whole wheat pita. We have been able to continue to lose weight at a slow pace which is "OK with us - neither of us has a lot of weight to drop. About 8 - 10 apiece. We have been able to keep what we have lost so far and even went a bit hog while last weekend when we were on a short vacation to Maine. It is for us a very good eating plan and something we can live with. Start to gain and we just cut back on the carbs for a day or so. Could not have done Atkins either, much too restrictive and too much real fat for us!

Give it a try - what have you got to lose (LOL)? It is for sure a healthy way of eating.

Thanks for the super quick reply!!!

This sounds good, and since you don't have that much to loose and are still losing i guess it's all good!!!

I'm gonna go buy the book right now!!

I'll start the diet later this week, when I'll finish my fruits and yogurt and milk though!

you guys all sound really cool too, so i'll be posting here!

I definately reccommend the diet. Phase one is the strictest but very doable. I missed my fruits but enjoyed them again in phase 2. I lost 15 pounds and went down 2 pant sizes, and have maintained the weight loss. I do "cheat" a little here and there but I always manage to correct it. I feel much better and am happier with this way of eating. This is something I can do for the rest of my life. I never feel deprived. About once a month I allow myself a real treat. Buy the book.....you will not be sorry. Good luck and check in often. This board and the people are awesome.

GIVE IT A TRY:) It's the best thing I've done to lose weight without feeling deprived. I'll admit, I've indulged in things here and there but like someone else said, you've got to know how to correct it.

I had gestational diabetes and I learned, if I ate something I wasn't supposed to, exercise was the best correction. I did an experiement: I ate what I did, tested my blood sugar 1.5 hours later (had to record after 2 hours) and it was high (which I expected). So I did 20 minutes of aerobics and it got to where it needed to be within the next half an hour. I read that exercise was a natural insulin (it lets the muscles take the sugar from the blood). So if I eat "bad", I wouldn't beat myself up over it, I'd just add 15 minutes of intese exercise to my normal routine the next day. I've lost 18 pounds of my post baby weight in the past 2.5 months. Not bad:) It's worth a shot...

Eat lots of veggies and beans...drink lots of water...exercise for at least 4-5 days...and trial and error make the best combo to success.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Yes, give it a try.

I too am a real carb person, but I am doing OK without bread and fruit (I am at the end of day six!) No sweets, no bread, no fruit, but I feel fine.

Good luck!

I haven't started the diet yet, but I finally got the book at the library after a long wait list. Since then, I found all the necessary information, plus additional recipes for $1.99 on eBay. It comes to your email in the form of an e-Book. It has all the acceptable foods for both Phase I and II, plus an awesome shopping list. It was well worth the $1.99 and perhaps a cheaper alternative to buying the book! Just a thought.
