Is this normal??

I am only on day two of Phase 1, and both yesterday and today, I have had periods of time where I am soooo shaky, sweaty, starving. This happens to me whenever I get really hungry (diet or not). I have been eating enough, even maybe a little more since I am breastfeeding my 5 month old, but I still have felt pretty hungry almost all day. I thought you weren't supposed to feel hungry?

I am a Weight Watcher member, but lately I have been totally overloading on carbs and sugar, and I think this diet may really help me break the addiction. I need to lose about 30 pounds to get below my pre pregnancy weight.

Has anyone else experienced the shaking/sweating/hunger?? Will it go away?

Thanks.

I would say you need to keep snacks handy and if this happens you should eat something. Nursing takes a lot out of you and you need to be sure you give you body what it needs at this time.

Karen,

The first 2 days were the hardest for me two. Everytime I felt hungry, I ate something just to keep that "hungry" feeling at bay. I felt like I probably ate too much, but I stuck to the allowed foods and made it thru that yucky phase. Day 3 was much better for me.

Hopefully, you will get over this hump and really enjoy this way of eating.

Best of luck to you :)

I would think that because you are breastfeeding, you need to be on phase 2. I can't remember for sure, but I think that's what Dr. A says in the book. (I'll have to check to be for sure.) Your main concern is to have nutritious milk for your baby and phase 2 will ensure that you are eating very healthy for the both of you.

I agree with the others that you may have to up your calories. Remember, breastfeeding requires *more* calories then pregnancy! Some experts suggest that women may burn as many as 500 extra calories a day breastfeeding. As a childbirth educator/doula, I would strongly suggest you up your calories if you are feeling shaky. A sudden drop in calories could reduce your breastmilk. In addition, a breastfeeding woman needs lots of calcium which is hard to do without dairy unless you are really good about eating high calcium veggies. Additionally, the change in nutrients you won't get from dropping fruit and other foods while nursing comes off to me as questionable.

I agree with the suggestion of perhaps starting with phase two.

Remember also that breastfeeding makes a woman naturally very hungry. Nursing women are supposed to feel hungry so that they eat enough to nourish their babies. If your body is telling you to eat more, you probably should. Also keep in mind that your baby is only 5 months old and nursing moms are supposed to have extra fat stores. It helps with milk production. Only in Hollywood do nursing moms turn into a size 4 overnight!
