My food list says "avoid ALL fruit, dairy and starches, including yogurt & milk (even soy)."

So, I'd say no soy milk on Phase 1... and then on Phase 2, be careful. Chocolate soy milk has 23 carbs per CUP.

FYI - There's a product called Soy Slender by WestSoy - sugar free (sweetened with Splenda) soy, available in vanilla, chocolate, and cappuccino. Picked it up in the natural foods section at the grocery store. Found it in a refrigerate-after-opening box on the shelf, then saw it in the cold section. Going to use it on my oatmeal one of these mornings.

I forgot about that. Actually, I think I was blocking it from my memory. LOL... I thought it was pretty awful. The only soy milk I can stomach is the Silk soy milk. (and boy do I miss my soy milk in the morning.

Thanks for the warning - I'd better use plenty of cinammon and nutmeg with that Soy Slender!!

I like the taste of Silk Vanilla Soy (wish they had a sugar-free version), but when I first saw it, my first thought was of Kaopectate!

Is the problem for you with Soy Slender a consistency issue? Or an off-flavor? Funny smell? Anything specific, or just an overall big yucko?

For me, it TASTES like soy. LOL... I find that the Silk tastes pretty much like regular milk.

To answer the original question, NO soy milk is acceptable on Phase 1. In this phase you are restricted because you are trying to get your body off craving bad carbs. After the two weeks, soy milk is fine.

IMO, the Soy Slender does have that sucralose taste, which isn't bad, but is definitely different than sugar.

Hi all,

Another option is Yu brand, a multigrain "milk". It's a little browner than soy milk, and isn't yummy like Soy Dream (which I was using before I started this plan), but I think it is good for phase II because it's carb profile is exactly the same as skim milk's. It does have more fat and thus more calories, putting it up, calorie-wise, to whole milk. However, the fat isn't saturated like dairy fat.

Anyway, it's another option, especially if you want to avoid artificial sweeteners.

Happy Beaching!
