Losing weight but gaining body fat

I've been on the South Beach Diet for 2 and a half weeks now. I've followed it to the best of my ability considering that there are certain fodds that I can't and won't eat. I haven't had any of the processed carbs. No bread, pastas etc. No fruit and I eat my vegitables and have chicken, turkey, sirloins, and the propper foods. The problem that is happening is that while I'm losing weight my body fat is continually rising. I thought that maybe my body had to adjust some more in stage one before I went to stage two. I've lost 17 lbs in 19 days but my body fat has gone up by 13%. When I was on the atkins diet my body fat dropped like a rock. Has anyone else had any similar experiences or can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do? I'm so confused.

Ivy,

Now that we have everything straight, at least it seems that way, we can get back to eating:) I am following SBD according to what works for me. I am not a strict by-the-book kinda gal, but I take the principles and go from there. Are you following Atkins, SBD or a mixure of things that work for you? Everything is cheery on my part now. No more defensiveness (is that a word?) lol. I am going to enjoy my pumpkin pudding with whipped cream (I made it myself. YIPPIE! Cheers! have a great evening.

runnermom,

Thanks for the input. I'm still losing weight and inches and for some reason the bodyfat percentage is still going up on this darn scale. As far as my menu goes I've been trying to stick to the diet as best as I possibly can with my limitations on certain types of foods that I'll eat. So here's a typical menu for my day.

Breakfast:

2 eggs with onion

2 slices of canadian bacon

large glass of water

morning snack: a lowfat cheese stick

lunch: tuna salad over a salad

Large glass of water

afternoon snack:

A tablespoon of Krema peanut buter.(1.5g carbs, 8.5g fat, 5g protein, no added sugar)

Dinner: Sirloin steak

Dinner salad with Balsamic Vinagrette dressing

Vegatables

Dessert: Cup of Sugar Free Jello. And this is because I can not for the life of me find these so called sugar free fudgescicles that are allowed on this diet. I don't know who makes them or where to find them. But I'd love to get my hands on them.

Thanks again,

Katen

Katen,

The inches are what really matters. That's what you want to lose. Some say throw the scale out and use a tight pair of jeans for measure.

I think your menu looks great.

I don't think you need to cut anything but if you wanted to modify for whatever reason, egg beaters make a great substitution for real eggs. I know eggs are allowed but I feel better with all the flavor of real eggs without the fat and calories. Call me crazy:)

>>>>>lunch: tuna salad over a salad

I did this many times for lunch or i'd do the rollups or chicken salad. See you can't get another veggie in here...cauliflower with ranch or caesar dressing (less than 3g sugar per serving)

>>>>>afternoon snack:

Maybe with that peanut butter, you could put it on an apple when you get to phase 2. That's a nice filling snack. Make sure to stick to a tablespoon!

Don't forget that beans are okay for all phases (lima, navy, black, kidney, butter, etc.)

The infamous:) fudgesicles are made by blue bunny. they are no sugar added sweetned with splenda. I found them at Superwalmart although I didn't care for them too much. My sister makes the ricotta creme with cocoa and peanut butter and loved it! We both got tired of it after a while. My father like to make a big deal out of deciding which flavor of jello to have that night:)

I almost got one of those scales but after reading reviews from www.epinions.com and www.target.com I saw more complaints than rave reviews. All for the same reasons you are discouraged with yours. Hang in there...you seem to be doing great:)
