This might be a helpful thread if we can build the messages to be helpful. Add your most important, notorious, repeated, helpful, etc FAQ. Please include questions even the questions are duplicates. Different answers help out different people.

1. Are beans allowed? YES! Eat them! EAT, EAT, EAT!

2. How many carbs are we allowed a day. We don't count carbs. Only inches, Lbs, and dress sizes are counted here.

3. Can we exercise on this WOE? Yes. Walking, running, strength training, videos... all are great!

4. Do I need the book or can I just start? In my opinion, a basic knowledge helped me to understand what was going on with my body and the weightloss. I bought the book, found the recipies helpful, and the food lists were great as well. Then I tried the internet and this board. I didn't really need the book, but this is just me. I learned a lot from the experiences I read about. However, that is just me.

5. What are helpful internet sites? Hippodamia.com, prevention.com, ivillage.com

1. Can I have milk or ice cream in Phase 1?

Not in phase 1. This is allowed back in Phase 2. The only allowed dairy are cheeses and splash of FF half and half in your coffee if you need it. I got this from hippodamia.com. Just hang on until phase 2.

Which energy or low carb bars are acceptable on the South Beach Diet?

The answer: none. Why? All of these bars (even the ones claiming to be low carbohydrate) contain a substantial amount of carbohydrates. Additionally, none of them are an acceptable alternative to fresh, whole foods.

Can I have lattes/mochas during Phase 1?

Phase 1 is to rid your body of carb cravings. There is too much milk in latte/mochas (even cappuccinos, for that matter) to successfully rid your body of cravings to have them during Phase 1. This goes for soy milk, too (have you explored the ingredients in soy milk, lately???). After your 14 days in Phase 1, however, mochas and lattes are a welcomed treat...at least that was my experience!

Q: Do you have to follow a specific daily meal plan?

A: No, you only need to follow the food lists for each phase, as outlined in the book or on hippodamia.com.

Q: Do I have to drink vegetable juice on this diet?

A: There is no food or drink you specifically have to have while on this diet. An acceptable alternative is tomato juice. Also, a fellow Beacher suggested 1/2 to a whole, small tomato as part of breakfast or lunch.
