Low Carb Candies

I just discoverd low carb candy by Russell Stover. One serving (2 candies) contain 16g carbs, 9g fat, 80 cal. I think these are OK for SBD. I am on P2, but still following P1 closely. I tried the pecan delight and they were delicious. This is the first time I have really strayed with something so decadent.

I got some of their low carb candy at one of their outlets downstate several weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were.

I am liking the low-carb candies and sugar-free ice cream in small amounts on phase II. Someone posted that the peanut butter cups were full of corn sugar. I read the label, and I did not see anything that looked like corn sugar. What is the chemical name for it?

Thanks,

There are many names for forms of sugar, including: maltose, dextrose, sucrose, fructose, lactose, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, raw sugar, brown sugar, turbinado, powdered sugar, molasses, maple sugar, honey, corn syrup, and high-fructose corn syrup. I've probably left out some, but manufacturers are pretty sneaky about slipping it into all kinds of things.

also, each type of sugar affects your blood sugar differently. Sugar alcohols are SUPPOSED to enter the blood stream slowly where pure sugar does the opposite. Fructose (found naturally in fruit) has a lower glycemic indext than honey sugar or pure sugar. It's not too fair to lump them all together.

nice reading your posts today.

It's true that they're absorbed at different rates and some are better than others, but if someone is looking for sugar those are names to look for. I wasn't really lumping them together other than that they are all names for sugar you can look for when checking out labels. Some people have to be more careful about that than others.

Thanks Rhonda and Runnermom!

I think I will continue to enjoy my small to moderate amounts of sugar-free reesce's peanut butter cups. The ingredients appear to be sugar-alcohols, not actual sugars. I doubt that they are any worse than many of the other sugar-free treats.

I am losing faster on phase II!

What a feeling!

I just realized why this is not a great treat on SBD. We are only supposed to consume 75 sweet calories per day. These candies are around 90.

Sorry.
