3rd day and I am starving what's wrong?

Today is my 3rd day in P1 and my fiance has about had it with me. I have been so crabby since I started this diet. It only happens when I need to eat, by that time I am so hungry that I can't stand it. I have been on this sight and read just about every post and it seems that I may be the only one on this diet that is starving. What am I doing wrong? I can admit that I had no regard for what I ate before this diet so it's possible that I am going through some sort of withdraw. I have never not eaten sugar... once I eat I am back to normal and usually apologizing to someone for my pre-lunch or pre-dinner behavior. Any advice would be very helpful.

Thank you everyone,

Kari

I stopped at this note. I'm new at this but I read in the book eat as much as you need to the first two weeks....then you will begin not wanting so much. I eat and eat and eat. I've lost about five pounds the first week and would you believe two days I cheated...not bad but I did cheat...so I'm going to stay on phase 1 another week. I believe I can live this kind of lifestyle. I enjoy all my meal...sometime grazing...but I graze on the right things.

Hey Kari,

The first day I started, I was starving like you so I made some adjustments. I increased all my portions, of only the right foods of course. And I brought extra snacks so I wouldn't be hungry.

For example, I had grilled chicken on mixed greens with olive oil and lemon. I carried an extra chicken breast just in case I was still hungry. I ended up eating only half of the extra breast for lunch and by the time it came to pick up my kids from school, I was getting hungry. I pulled out the other half of breast and nibbled on that. That was good enough for me so when I got home, I wasn't starving for dinner and not nibbling on anything. Same thing for snacks...just take extra to cover yourself.

Since you're eating breakfast so early in the morning, I would definitely take extra snacks. Again, it's not how much you eat; it's about what you eat and eating until you are satisfied. I find that when I start to get hungry and don't eat is when the headaches come. If you can, try and prepare your meals before hand to avoid slip-ups; it works for me. Best of luck to you.

Hi Kari. You're not alone. I finally let my hunger and cravings get the best of me and I seemed to have ditched South Beach altogether on day 10. I want to start again, but then I remember that I was always hungry and never felt very well.

Now I'll read all the replies to you to see what help I can find too.

edited to add: I don't think it was always necessarily hunger. I was always grazing and there were times I was so full I was going to pop. But, I never felt satisfied.

Make sure you are drinking lots of water. It keeps you full. Snack on veggies and cheese. It is better to eat than to starve, but eat the good stuff. Eventually your sugar cravings will minimize and you will not need so much food to keep going.
