Are these foods allowed on Phase 1?

Hi everyone:

I am starting Phase I over because I didn't lose any weight the first time and think that I may have been eating foods/seasonings that weren't allowed. I have the book, but didn't see these foods mentioned on the lists:

Are the following OK to have on Phase I?

-lean original flavor beef jerkey (the package says that it has 11 grams of protein, 4 grams of sugar, and 4 carbohydrates per serving).

-pumpkin seeds (if so, how much?)

-olives

-A1 steak sauce

-lean/low-fat deli lunch meats

-snow peas

-coffee/tea (if so, how many cups per day?)

I would appreciate any advice. I am currently 120 lbs. and would like to lose ten pounds.

Thanks so much and have a great day.

Hi. Beef jerky would not be allowed and I am sure that the steak sauce (like ketchup) is high in sugar. The other items you mention - olives, pumpkin seeds, snow peas, low fat lunch meats are allowed on SBD P1. The only problem with coffee/tea is that in some people, caffeine increases hunger. I don't find that to be a problem, and I drink 2-3 cups per day. Enjoy, and good luck!!!

I don't know why beef jerky wouldn't be allowed. I eat it all the time. It's just lean meat and we can have that. I don't get the teriaki kind though (too much sugar), I always get it peppered. I think it's a great snack that can be taken anywhere. Is there some reason that we shouldn't eat this that I'm not thinking of?

Think with beef jerky, if you make it at home, it's all right. If you get it at the store, it is usually processed. I'll do some digging around to see what I can find.

I agree that most kinds you'd make at home would be OK. For sugars, don't forget about corn syrups and dex- (i.e., dextrose, dextrin, etc.), which tend to be in a lot of the processed jerkys.

Yeah, I went home and looked at the labels on some store bought jerky........Sugar and MSG. Bad stuff. I will still eat the homemade stuff though
